KANSAS CITY HATES MAYOR SLY'S IDEA TO CELEBRATE FORMER MAYOR KAY BARNES!!!

For a lot of reasons that we might go into later . . . Here's a Kansas City FACT from the political world today . . .

EVERYBODY HATES MAYOR SLY'S KISS-UP IDEA TO HONOR FORMER MAYOR KAY BARNES!!!

For the most part, people think it's a waste of time . . .

ALREADY WE'VE HEARD THAT IT'S NOTHING MORE THAN A PLOY TO EARN NORTHLAND SUPPORT THAT'S FADING FAST FOR THE MAYOR!!!

And there are even more reasons to attack this DESPERATE move from a Mayor that has expended all of his political capital at the behest of consultants and our favorite engineering company.

Check the presser that names the committee for this nonsense:

Mayor James seeks to properly recognize Mayor Kay Barnes

A task force appointed by Mayor James will guide efforts to honor Mayor Barnes for her herculean efforts to revitalize downtown

Mayor Sly James announced today his appointments to a task force that will assist him in properly honoring Mayor Kay Barnes for her transformative work in our City’s downtown. The group will hold its first meeting on July 2nd at 10 am on the 17th floor of City Hall and the meeting schedule and scope of work will be determined at that first gathering. Members of this task force are:

Porter Arneill – Municipal Art Commission Director/Public Art Administrator

Dr. Brenda Bethman – Director, UMKC’s Women’s Center and partner in the Women’s Empowerment (WE) Initiative

Cindy Circo – Mayor Pro-Tem

Bill Dietrich – President and CEO of Downtown Council

Wendy Doyle – President and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of Greater Kansas City and partner in the Women’s Empowerment (WE) Initiative

Ed Ford – Councilman, 2nd District at-Large

Herb Kohn – Partner, Bryan Cave, LLP

Michael Lintecum – Executive Director of Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce/Producer of AIDS Walk KC

Dr. Linda Moore – Psychologist, author and speaker

Cici Rojas – President and CEO of Central Exchange and partner in the Women’s Empowerment (WE) Initiative

“For decades to come, Kansas City will reap the benefits of Mayor Barnes efforts to transform downtown,” said Mayor James. “That type of impact and vision is worthy of substantial recognition. Now that I have an office on the 29th floor of City Hall, I marvel at what she accomplished more than ever. Furthermore, I’m committed to elevating Mayor Barnes’ legacy so that our next generation of female leaders see what is possible and understand just how much she helped change our view of what our City could be.”

  1. Hate is a strong word. But in this case it's apt.

  2. Name the P&L District bond payments after her. They'll be good until 2040!

  3. No public official should have anything named after them until 5 years after their death or until by popular vote.

  4. Vacant houses, broken water mains, poor streets, high sales taxes this is the legacy of Kay(Credit Card)Barnes.

  5. Why do you need to appoint a task force to honor someone?

  6. Kay Barnes (Carpetbagger bitch) lived by the Plaza and then decided to move north in Briarcliff to take on Sam Graves. She spent 2 million and lost by a landslide. After she lost election she moved back south Then she could not sell her Briarcliff house so it was auctioned off. Kay is not loved north of river.

  7. Give-it-away Kay actually lived just off Ward Parkway on 57th St. before getting interested in Briarcliff TIFs.

Sly is following in her footsteps. I don't see much action on his part to help the poorer parts of town, although he put on a good act in Marlborough when he was campaigning.

Idea for a movie, Driving Miss Kay where Sly could play the chauffer. Yes 'em Miss Kay, Sly will drive you over to the Piggly Wiggly so youz could get some tea for later. Might work. Kay is free and I think Sly might be free the middle of next year. I will put a presentation together and see if I can get the green light.

  9. name a park after her whose land will be sold off to other outside eco-dev interests from the coasts about 50 years from now when everyone will have completely forgotten her and what she did. It would be a fitting tribute.

Name the sewer system that will EVENTUALLY get fixed after Sly because his legacy will be flushing taxpayer money down it.

In honor of Sly and the Hoodisrattis, Swope Park should be renamed Spook Park.

  12. Yes. Recognize Mayor Barnes ... for lying her little hoo-ha off selling us the P&L fiasco. While we're at it, ask her where the money went to fix our streets and schools. What a cunny....

  13. TKC HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!!

Speaking TRUTH, that is, an increasingly difficult thing to find among those covering KC news.

TKC is at his best when he speaks/writes bluntly about the facts, without unnecessarily becoming too rude.

A hard-hitting alternative voice earns respect.
