THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! CHECK KANSAS CITY LOW EXPECTATIONS: MAYOR SLY VS. FUNKHOUSER LEGACY!!!

Any disagreement with a hardcore cheerleader of Kansas City Mayor Sly James about his decisions or leadership ultimately boils down to one talking point: At least he's better than former Mayor Mark Funkhouser and his co-mayor wife Gloria Squitiro.

Even for TKC, this was an easy way to find a middle-ground and something to agree upon.

However . . .

TONIGHT . . . ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT DENIZENS OF THIS BLOG QUESTIONS KANSAS CITY'S LOW EXPECTATIONS OF MAYOR SLY IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE FUNKHOUSER/SQUITIRO DISASTER!!!

Moreover . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WONDER . . . IS MAYOR SLY DOING MORE HARM TO KANSAS CITY THAN MAYOR FUNKY EVER COULD???

In fairness, Mayor Funkhouser wasn't capable of doing much in Kansas City because he was so inept in creating consensus and incompetent in virtually every aspect of his mayoral job duties. On the other hand, Mayor Sly is highly skilled and has the benefit of a nearly rubber stamp council who fears any political reprisal from an elected official who they believe has a 70% approval rating.

And now . . . THANKS TO A KICK-ASS TKC READER . . . Here's a rather apt summary of the legacy of both local leaders:

TKC Commenter Compare And Contrast Kansas City Mayoral Legacies

Kansas City's answer to Mark Funkhouser, Sly "Feel Good" James doubled our municipal debt, raised our sales taxes by 2% or more (who knows when he'll stop trying to do that?), tore down the country's most convenient to get to and get in and out of airport, "invested" over $500,000,000 on a streetcar to nowhere and left the streets with the same or more plates on the ground and in greater disrepair than was the case when Kansas City was run by the world's worst mayor - Mark Funkhosuer who, for all his faults, didn't do anything to increase the municipal debt.

And so tonight, the question is:

HAS THE TENURE OF MAYOR SLY SUFFERED BECAUSE OF KANSAS CITY LOW EXPECTATIONS IN THE AFTERMATH OF FORMER MAYOR FUNKY???

Sure, Mayor Sly might be better than the Funkhouser/Squitiro nightmare but that's not saying much.

And all of this has inspired tonight's playlist . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday Night . . .

  2. Sly is a crook and it will all come to light. He will not win a reelection run! That simply won't happen!

  3. Half a billion dollars on the streetcar, huh? Math must not be your major.

  4. I think the comment was right on. Look at Sly's plan and that's the real cost. You have to factor in all of the busienss leaving KCMo too.

Sly will lose next election because of this.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Nope: Funk over Sly by at least $750,000,000.vAnd that's just the beginning 'cause no one with significant chops/intestinal fortitude will run against James next election cycle.

    What's that mean?

At least another half billion in (presently unfunded) expenditures at the expense of normal city maintenance (streets, sidewalks, lights, parks, etc etc etc.)

Truth be told that's why 'everyone', including this cat's paw of a blog, was against Funk; he wouldn't bend over for 'business as usual', he wouldn't allow corporate interests to run roughshod over the public using public taxes.

Well, you're rid of Funk: at what (current and future) cost?

  6. This fucking nigger, wouldn't make a wart on the Funk's ass. No contest, James is a nigger and a loser.

  7. Thanks for stating in this post, what many people have been saying....there's a big downside to tax and spend SLie.

Mayor Funkhouser liked to say that based upon resident surveys, he would concentrate on basic infrastructure. Folks are nostalgic for a concentration on primary city services in this time of economic troubles, before we go off on brand new luxury items.

  8. at least Funkhouser wasn't a NIGGER!

  9. Sly has made lots of promises, big announcements, and ridiculous comments like "KCMO is the innovation capital of the country", but he hasn't accomplished much of anything and the huge bills are already rolling through the door.
If he were the executive director of the tourist and visitors' bureau, all the rah rah and hype might be OK.
But he's the MAYOR of the city and by any measure, what the city is providing for the residents and businesses who are actually here has gotten worse during his term.
It may be fun to wear a bow tie and mingle with the artists, millenials, and hipsters in public, then do the real deals with the insiders and swells behind closed doors, but the young folks will be moving to safe suburbs with yards for the kids to play in and good schools, and all the consultants and salesmen will be gone once they get their bucks, and Sly will be left with little but his smile, but the taxpayers will be left with an empty general fund and bond payments of $10-15 million a year as far as the eye can see.
    All hat and no cattle.

  10. Sly wouldn't make a pimple on Funk man's ass.

  20. Sly is hugely personable. While he miss-spends the city into bankruptcy, you should be grateful that Sly is giving you great entertainment as you stumble together down the pot-holed and patched road to Detroit. Kansas City: the slum with one of the finest performing arts facilities in the world and a great little boutique railway that would be fun to ride except for the dangerous locals.

  32. Five years ago on 5 June in Peru, the police moved to clear a road block set by environmentalist and started shooting. In the ensuing conflict, 10 police officers, five indigenous people and five non-indigenous civilians were killed, more than 200 injured – at least 80 of whom were shot – and, elsewhere in the Bagua region, a further 11 police officers were killed after being taken hostage. Thank you Hunt Oil and your subsidiaries.
