What business does a 15 year old of ANY RACE have on the Plaza after 7pm? They can't afford to do anything down there. So why be there?
ReplyDeleteAs a 30-something year old professional black male, I'm all for a curfew. Especially on the Plaza. There is absolutely zero reason for juveniles of ANY RACE to be on the plaza in the evening.
With regards to the current happening, just further proof that certain people in this town just want to act like uncivilized, drains on society and cause trouble.
And I'm so sick of black leaders in this town calling "race" whenever the word curfew is thrown out there. It's a weak excuse at best. Yeah, I'm sure there are some dicks in the KCPD that will profile. But what's the alternative? Continue to see the problem grow and watch one of city's treasure go the way of Bannister Mall and Indian Springs?
And I'm also sick and tired of hearing, "black youth don't have anything to do". So the alternative is to go to the plaza, get in fights and start shooting as a way to have "something to do". ReplyDeleteClose, but no cigar. We want ANY AND ALL teens (black, white, purple, or orange) who are there to start trouble and make things difficult for paying customers to stay off the plaza. You could bus a load of redneck peckerwoods from BFE rural Missouri to the plaza, and if they were pulling the same crap, the solution would / should be the same.
The problem this time is that the teens causing problems are black, and as such, any attempt to quickly and definitively solve the problem must first be run through the gauntlet of political correctness.
Alonzo did make one good point. The bigger issue is the high murder rate, but since by and large the community who is dealing with most of it doesn't want to address the issue in a meaningful way, the rest of us can't either. That's the difference with the plaza teens, those being affected ARE trying to deal with it.
Alonzo will you go down to the plaza and talk to these kids? See what they think about you! They might give you a beatdown then you wont be complaining!

If they're causing a disturbance -- if they're harassing customers -- if they're threatening people or getting into fights -- if they're defacing a fountain or running in between cars -- they get arrested and sent to jail. If they're a minor, that person's parents get fined. If it happens enough, THEY get arrested as well.
