Kansas City Teaching Moment: Missouri Billionaire Rex Sinquefield Notes In Forbes Column . . . "E-Tax Killed Detroit"

The richest political denizen in all of the Show-Me State weighs-in with this bit of political and economic discourse published in Forbes:

The Earnings Tax Is A Key Factor In Detroit's Taxpayer Exodus, Bankruptcy

The gist of his economic policy polemic:

"The ill-conceived economic policies and real leadership vacuum, locally and at the state level, set the stage for Detroit’s failure, ultimately bringing this iconic American city to its knees. If it can happen in Detroit, we now ask, what other U.S. cities may be facing the same fiscal disaster?"

Don't worry Kansas City . . . This town OVERWHELMINGLY approved the E-tax and we're counting on the toy train streetcar and maybe a Downtown Convention Hotel to really turn things around.

Still . . . TKC Advice: Locals might not want to hold their breath waiting for the economic progress politicos promise.

  1. there is a distinct difference between the Detroit e-tax and KC's if you lived outside of Detroit the tax was 50% of the tax levied on those who lived in the city.

  2. No, niggers ruined Detroit, just like they're in the process of ruining Kansas City and other American cities... Not to mention, the country as a whole.

  3. Only one thing killed Motor City and wasn't no damn tax

  4. Tony people have been talking down the KC E-Tax for months if not years. Why does it take a billionaire to get any push behind abolishing this strangling tax? I mean have the city mothers and fathers not gotten a clue even yet????

  5. Dat's right, it's the damned N-tax and everybody knows it...Everybody.

  6. You're right TKC... political corruption had nothing to do with it. **eye roll**

  7. Why has Rex spent so much money advertising against E-tax? What's in it for him? Anyone know? Honest question.

  13. After the spending spree this council and mayor have been on for the last few years I can assure you I will not vote for the e-tax a second time around.

  14. No one cares, because you live in JoCo.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Poor Rexie only cares because he has to pay e-tax on his business in St Louis and paying anything back to the society that protects him and his wealth chaps his wittle fake libertarian ass.

  16. Nothing like paying a tax for the "privilige" of working in shithole KCMO.

The 1% earnings tax is a very good model for taxation, that we should wish the states and federal government would adopt. Think about this:

    1. It's a flat tax. Not heavily progressive like state/federal income taxes.
    2. It's never increased since its implementation.
    3. The rich still pay more. 1% tax on a high-income earner is still more than 1% for a low-income earner.
    4. No having to hire a tax accountant or purcahse a computer software program to figure out how much tax you owe this year. You can figure out your tax with a pocket calculator; but it's already deducted from your paycheck, so don't even have to do that.
    5. Never have to compile a bunch of W-2's, 10-99's, receipts, 1040's, itemizations, etc. and all the other paperwork you have to do for Uncle Sam or the state.
    6. No April 15 deadline.
    7. Everybody pays. No "47% don't pay any taxes" talk.

The E-Tax is a very good model. You should be petitioning the IRS and your state capitol to scrap their current tax structures and system, and go to a system like this...

Note: No, I am not a city employee or politician. See name above.

  18. Rex conveniently leaves out the fact that 4,943 jurisdictions in 17 states levy local income taxes on both residents and non-residents including many, many fast growing succesful urban cities such as:

    Denver

    San Francisco

    Marion County, IN (Indianapolis)

    Every County in MD

    NYC

  19. If Sly would ever stop the reckless spending, maybe we could get rid of the earnings tax. This could aid in attracting some jobs in KCMO.

    ReplyDelete
  20. KCMO will be Detroit if Sly doesn't make the in KCFD and bring all City pensions in line with private pension plans.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ...said someone who understand nothing about Detroit, pension, or KC.

Seriously, you sound like a 5th grader talking about sex when you regurgitate that kind of uninformed horseshit.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah KC's pension are in better shape than almost anywhere in the country, and they are in better shape than most private "pension" plans, aka, 401K's

    ReplyDelete
  23. blasphemous!

    ReplyDelete
  24. You morons can go right on, talking about the e-tax and other important stuff, but you know damned well, that you're just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. KC is Detroit.2 and everyone knows it. Enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The reason Detroit went bankrupt is because Republican leaders in the state and city allowed themselves to plunder public employee pensions in order to create business incentives...that never created any jobs, just lower tax revenue due to corporation freebies. Thats what happened plain and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 9:07, you're an idiot. Detoilet went bankrupt because a bunch of darkies were in office and kept pouring out money to help their brothas and sistahs. Just like Slip n Sly is doing in KC aka Detoilet II.
