TKC EXCLUSIVE BLOG QUESTION!!! JJ'S BENEFIT FORGETS ANOTHER MEMBER OF KANSAS CITY RESTAURANT COMMUNITY!!!

A member of our AWESOME AND GULLY TKC BLOG COMMUNITY poses an important question to supporters of an upcoming fundraiser . . .

"The JJ's benefit is taking place right down the street from were the Chubby's employee was shot and killed. Would it be nice if they kicked in a little money for his family. or is Chubby's not part of the Kansas City restaurant community?"

Seriously, this is a rather BRILLIANT analysis and a very good question that deserves an answer. In many ways it speaks to how mainstream media covers local disaster in a way that highlights the spectacular but ignores every day tragedy that's just as important.

Thanks to the reader who sent in this comment and remember THE TKC BLOG COMMUNITY is the only media outlet that doesn't kowtow to local restaurant ad biz dollars or influence . . .

And while we expect nothing but knee-jerk reaction, it's important for more thoughtful readers to really consider the implications of this important question and realize that there should be enough room in our hearts for victims of BOTH tragedies.

DEVELOPING . . .

  3. Bravo Tony, screw these ineffectual noncommittal cause du jour shitheads and their mutual masturbation wank fest benefit.

  4. just a bunch of poseurs wanting another party. They don't really care about anything but their own self-aggrandizement.

  5. Good point- But believe had more to do with the multiple injuries involved and the trauma to all parties versus just one family.

Kansas City is kind and I believe fair to all of it's citizens.

  6. If I understand correctly, JJ's employee salaries are being covered by insurance as will the cost of building replacement. So where is the raised money going?

  7. In this town you have to know the right people, go to the right parties, live in the right places and kiss the right asses to get any love. What happened at JJ's was definitely a tragedy there is no doubt. The murders and crime and ass kissin' pay to play in this city is also a tragedy.

  8. Just like on the east side. Somebody is going to get something and all the roaches come scurrying out to get some of the cake.

  9. Is there room in our hearts for both?

    There damn well should be!

  10. Actually a good question, TKC. Perhaps some of the money being raised for JJ's could go to establish a healthcare fund for restaurant workers, like what the Midwest Music Foundation is doing for musicians.

  12. We have lost our way in Kansas City. We need to return to our founding principals and get back to the things that made us great. I do believe we can care for more than just the victims of the explosion. We need to come together and cooperate in tragedy and time of crisis. Together we can do it.

  13. Let's assume TKC's question was asked seriously, and not just to "stir the pot".
Well, sure it would be nice to "kick in" some money for the Chubby's employee! But, don't hold your breath please.
This JJ's benefit came about, as others have indicated, because it was a PLAZA area establishment with a well-to-do clientele who loved their wine. Higher income white collars felt some guilt over the misfortune of those who serviced them for so long. Throw a little money their way, sign the get-well card, the guilt is lifted, and it's off to find their next favorite PLAZA restaurant.

Chubby's ? What or who is Chubby's? Do they have a wine collection?

The family of the Chubby's employee killed should contact the MO Attorney General's office for info on the Crime Victim's Compensation Fund.

  14. 8:54 the local government here is a playground for corruption. The fire union is where I would direct you too..get to know the entity, study their purpose over the years and if you do you will learn more than you ever will ever have too, then you will realize and understand how corruption works in this city...its a fact and facts are proven by truth -Truth is proven by action. The fire union is a local version of the us government and actually the local 42's are backed by the international association of fire fighters....check into who lobbies for them and your discovery will answer
    all your questions.

  15. Will Alonzo be serving the dinner rolls?

  16. Just a note of history. This benefit will be held almost 50 years to the day (March 3, 1963) that a number of top Nashville stars performed at KCK's Memorial Hall in a benefit for the family of Jack Call, a country DJ who was killed in a car accident in January.

It would be the final performance of Patsy Cline, Hawksaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. They were killed in a plane crash on March 5, returning to Nashville.

  17. First good point I've read on here all day.

Maybe it's time to do benefit all restaurant workers.

  18. Maybe Megan Birdsall will explode at the benefit. She's totally full of GAS and a pain in the ass

  19. I don't remember seeing Chubby's participating in the JJ's Fundraiser.

  20. Again we are back to complaining and back seating what people do with their own time and money. If people are so outraged over the death of a chubbys employee, then they should have a benefit for him. It's the same old attitude shit heels like Alonzo display over people looking for lost dogs. People try to do some good and someone has to turn it into a class or racial thing. If the JJ's benefit is privately funded, meaning not a drain on taxpayers, who gives a fuck? And why is it anyone's business?

  21. Hell why stop at restaurant workers? Let's make the benefit for everyone who has ever walked by JJs, walked by Chubbys, took their laundry to the Lost Sock, shopped at Aldis, attended an event at the Uptown, had Joe's pizza, purchased something from the Gap, walked through Crown Center?

In fact, let's include everyone in Clay, Platte, Ray, Johnson, Jackson, and Cass counties. Everyone. There.

    Hey that's right!
How about everyone walking into the benefit will receive a benefit check?
