MAYOR SLY WANTS HIS 1K ROOM DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY HOTEL!!!

Going into Kansas City Mayor Sly's term . . . We knew he didn't really care about infrastructure.

He promised that he wouldn't really mess with schools.

His insight into local government was limited.

BUT NOBODY EXPECTED MAYOR SLY TO BE NOTHING MORE THAN A REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT MAYOR!!!

The latest example:

Mayor: KC doesn’t have ‘room’ for big ticket events

Fox4 captures the mayor talking up more hotel space using talking points developed by the CVA. It's kind of silly when when think of overall lack of "economic impact" and a continued neglect of Kansas City's other neighborhoods.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. Now maybe we could make that happen if we could get all the lazy Negros to get off their sorry asses and get a job instead of having uncle tom pay for everything. Just think how much more money the KC earning tax would bring in.

Sorry Mayor, your peoples will not come through for you!

  2. we listen to the tall tales of "just one more piece of the convention puzzle" that never appears. we continue to get screwed with nothing to show but empty promises.

  3. Let's build a hotel at the taxpayer's expense so we can subsidize the management and operation of the hotel and give incentives to companies to bring their conventions to Kansas City while cannibalizing guests from hotels that receive no assistance or whose incentives have/are sunsetting.

  4. KC doesn't have the class for big ticket events. All a potential client has to do is ask 1) How much is your hotel and car rental tax?, 2) How much is parking in event areas?, 3)What are the tow fees and how many cars were?, 4) Whats the crime rate and how many murders?, 5) Whats the sales tax?, 6) What happened to Kansas City?

Who the fuck in their right mind would WANT to come to Kansas City for anything??? To see the Chiefs or Royals lose? Get real!

  8. It's called free market capitalism. If a company sees an opportunity to make money, let them build a hotel at their discretion. Not one subsidized by taxpayers. If there is profit to be made, capitalism will fill that vacuum. The fact Sly wants taxpayers to build it tells you right there it will lose money.

  9. What's really fucked up about KC is that you order a goddamned 2.00 coke and mcdouble at mcdonald's, and the fucking tax is 21 cents!!!!!!! So, we are paying a nearly 11% tax on our fucking food on Troost and Meyer. What's up with that? No one would notice unless it was exactly 1.00 increments, and you do the math. This City is one fucked up dishonest MESS. ELEVEN PERCENT SALES TAX!!! SEWERS BROKEN - TOY TRAINS!!!!

  10. Just to put it in perspective, that would make it the 156th largest hotel IN THE WORLD.

The 156th largest city in the world is Havana, Cuba. Which is 6 times the size of KCMO.

Tony why don't you talk about the 3K that Jackson County slid out of economic development funds to Jeremy Ploeger and the Kansas City Renegades Football Club? Oh I forgot, you fuck Jeremy when Calvin Williford is not doing it?

  14. Well, as someone who books conventions for a living, I will let you in a trade secret:

No one gives a shit what your taxes are. Everyone who goes to the convention pays them, the people in charge of booking them make the call.

No one cares about your crime rate, New Orleans is a premier convention city.

No one cares about your sports teams. Orlando is premier convention destination.

No one cares about parking fees and KC's are some of the cheapest and most plentiful in the entire country.

And finally, ever convention center and district in the country is subsidized by taxpayers. There is no such thing as free market capitalism. That's a unicorn.

    1. Amen. I used to plan events and organize these things. 100% agree. Nobody cares because conventions are never paid for by attendees. they're tax writeoffs, or paid by corporations sending the sales drones out. And if the attendees do pay, it's like a vacation so you don't care anyway.

if people cared about crime, tax or any of that, every convention in the world would be held in North Dakota.

  18. And America does not, nor has it ever, practiced free market capitalism.

The state has actively and openly intervened in commerce since the founding of this nation.

There is no such thing as a free market, that's a a myth that the wealth-concentrators spread while they use taxpayer funded roads, ports, infrastructure, monetary exchanges, banking systems, property protections, defense and police apparatus, and every other "socialist" luxury that US citizens provide through the state.
