TKC NOTE: An upbeat communique from Craig Glazer offers a bit of optimism regarding the future of pro-sports in Kansas City.
Get ready Kansas City
Post season for the Chiefs and Royals 2013?
‘Y’all ready for this?’
How long has it been since the Royals and Chiefs were both in post-season? Could this be The Year? Well, Kansas City Sports fans, maybe, just maybe, you can all be a little excited about what’s coming at you this summer and this fall.
Yes I know, nearly half the fans who follow the Royals likely never saw them in a playoff game. In 1985 the Royals, led by Hall of Famer George Brett, a young pitching staff and a cast of players that for the most part would soon be forgotten defeated the Saint Louis Cardinals and brought home our one and only baseball World Championship. Since then, zip, nada and nothing. In fact, at the end of the Brett era; just after 1990, the Kansas City Royals became a laughing stock. They were the worst team in baseball. Not to be outdone, our Kansas City Chiefs did win a Super Bowl World Championship in 1970, far fewer Chiefs fans of today saw that game. Yes sir, Len Dawson, Otis Taylor, and one of the NFL all-time best defenses headed up by linebacker Bobby Bell. Unlike the Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs had more moments of glory in the 1990’s under Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer. In 1993 they even flirted with going back to the Super Bowl. Even with superstar quarterback Joe Montana, they fell one game short.
Here we go fans. Clark Hunt got off the couch, went out and hired us a quality Head Coach; Andy Reid. He also grabbed John Dorsey to be the new General Manager. Hey, it gets better. Those two went out and got Alex Smith to quarterback this new incarnation of the Kansas City Chiefs. As I told you a couple weeks ago, they will go out and buy some big name veterans to help move the chains. As predicted, they resigned Dwayne Bowe, they likely will draft the top offensive linemen to protect their new quarterback. Make no mistake, this owner is ready to open his checkbook and sign up more name veterans to shore up a questionable defense. So where will that take us? If all goes well, maybe, just maybe look for some post-season play for our Kansas City Chiefs this year.
Take a deep breath. Even Royals owner David Glass has upped the ante. He opened his pocketbook and bought stud pitcher James Shields to lead a strong, young pitching staff. The hitting seems to be there with Alex Gordon, Billy Butler and hopefully a big comeback from Eric Hosmer. This Royals squad could challenge for a division title if not a wild card spot. They say pre-season doesn’t mean anything, especially in baseball. I disagree. When your team is undefeated in fifteen games, I think it does have meaning.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the Royals do make post-season. The Chiefs have a shot but let’s see what they look like in their pre-season. From what I’ve seen so far, they have a good shot at a wild card spot. Oh joy! We will have somebody to cheer besides the Kansas Jayhawk basketball team. Yes, I was wrong. KANSAS CAN and I’m happy about being wrong. Looking forward to some excitement this summer and fall for a change, aren’t you?
#############
Can't say that I disagree.
ReplyDeleteWith a new GM and coach at the Chiefs and the royals playing strong. This could be our year.
Is bo Jackson coming back and playing for both teams?
DeleteNo way either team makes the playoffs.
Glad to see you on our wagon for once Glaze. This could be a great year for KC.
ReplyDeleteThe toupee wearing, roid raging, HGH taking, I'm better than you, just ask me, you hater losers who have never accomplished anything in your lives Glazerrrrrrrrrrrr returns with more bile from the depths of his fading six pack.
ReplyDeleteThe ladies love him along with the 37 different alias names he posts under to bolster his cred.
Blow me baldy!
Why is this guy here?
ReplyDeleteIf Glazer's hair is fake, INTRODUCE ME TO HIS BARBER. He looks like a MOVIE STAR.
ReplyDeleteChiefs Rock. Royals will Rock. Glazer even you rock. This will be our year baby!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlaze should sell snake oil, or become a carnival barker.
ReplyDeleteChiefs may not get there, but I do think the Royals are for real. They win 90.
ReplyDeleteYeah right and were all rich again today according to Bloomberg.
ReplyDeleteYou hyped the Chef's last summer on KCC. What was it? The Chef's would win 9 or 10 games? I was generous with predicting about a 6-10 season.
ReplyDeleteI would bet that both teams continue to have losing seasons this year.
Instead of a long break down of why, I will simply question some of your assertions about the Chef's
First Andy Ried has done nothing that points to him being a top tier NFL coach.
Second signing Dwayne Bowe to a five year contract at this point does not instill confidence. If Bowe was that good and you figure he had any type of good agent, he would have better offers and held out longer. This says to me nobody was interested.
Third, Alex Smith is unproven unless he has a supporting cast around him. Nothing about him shows he is a Peyton Manning type leader on the field. Remember we will have to face the Donkeys twice this year.
The one good thing the Chef's have going for them is that they could be the second best team in the worst division in the NFL. That won't get them into the playoffs and probably not even a winning season.
Glazer called the Chiefs season perfect last year, after preseason he said they were the worst team in the NFL, correct, he bet against them correct and latter did it again, correct. You are a nothing snail smart slim so go find a trash can to lie in slim bag.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I completely agree with Glaze on this one.
ReplyDeleteThere's a chance that the Chiefs will be better. They really switched up their front office and have made some significant changes.
However, until Glass is gone there isn't much hope for the Royals.
sounds like nothing but glazer's fan club around here.
ReplyDeletebunch of pussies.
craig is wrong. but these teams are doing nowhere.
This article is clearly not written by Glazer if you ever read any of his KCC stuff.
ReplyDeleteHe's just having one of his lackeys write it now.
Too early for accuracy, but not for optimism.
ReplyDeleteHope you are right Glaze.
Yo, Real Harley, ease off the booze or take a pill. It appears you are referring to my post at 7:17. I had nothing but my opinion of the Chef's and facts. Didn't personally attack anyone other than to question the stock being put in to the resigning and bringing in talent that may be better than what the Chef's had but not the top tier to make to the next level IMHO. You going to challenge me to meet out at the bike rack after school.
ReplyDeleteGrow up.
Chuck is gay. Chuck is a racist. Chuck loves Harley. Chuck knows dick about football. Loser.
ReplyDeleteAh, come on, Glazer. Instead of speaking in generalities and platitudes, how about sharing some of that great "inside" information we know that a high-rolling gambler of your stature surely has.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you hear about the ETA for Duffy and Paulino? How is there rehab going? Think Holland can be the closer for a full season? If not, who will they turn to? Collins or Herrera?
Will Santana's arm hold up? The Angels sure gave him away fast to the first team that took his contract. How about Guthrie? Looked real good for a couple of months here, but he's had a streaky career and he's no spring chicken.
You mentioned Hosmer, but isn't it just as important for Moustakas to bounce back from his sophomore slump? And for Francoeur to do something similar to his 2011 season?
Can Cain and Getz stay healthy for a full season? If not, what's Plan B. And who they got behind Salvy if his knee starts barking?
And Lord help the Royals if anything happens to Escobar.
agree with Chuck, it would be great for KC is Glaze was even half right.
ReplyDeleteI'll take any improvement over last year.
"When your team is undefeated in fifteen games, I think it does have meaning."
ReplyDeleteSure. It means that your kids you are taking a quick look at beat their kids that they are taking a quick look at. Means about as much as the first NFL pre-season game.
Hey, Glazer. Stack the Royals up against Toronto and Cleveland. Both of those teams have also had a busy off-season.
ReplyDeleteThe Angels lost Greinke but they added Hamilton. The middle of that lineup looks pretty tough. So does Detroit, and they both have a pretty solid Rotation.
You also got the Rays who are deeeeep in young arms. The Yankees are the Yankees, and how long do we think the Red Sox will be down?
8:50
ReplyDeleteTalks about Chuck to her friends. Thinks about Chuck the next day at work and gets all moist down there. Gets confused with the syntax and vocabulary in the comments and dreams of working on Chuck's hang down in the library behind the shelves.
Doesn't know shit about football.
I am pretty sure everybody in KC is forgetting that the Sox are looking hungry and mean this season and will eat up kc spit them out after the break.
ReplyDeleteNice try Glazer but this team hasn't got what it takes.
Hearne says:
ReplyDeleteMore specifically, Craig is now having his columns edited and cleaned up by a Stanford’s employee with writing experience.
Why is Jackson County being a dead-beat when it comes to paying for a luxury suit for our new arena football team? Certainly the County Executive and all the legislators will want to be at the Renegades' kick off, but staff seems unable to get a check cut. It would be awful if these public officials did not have a honored place to watch the game just because staff cannot do their jobs.
ReplyDeleteI for one cannot wait until the Renegades play their first game against the Omaha Beef on March 17, 2013, at 4:30 PM in Kemper arena. This is good family fun and I am very happy to buy tickets.
ReplyDeleteWho isn't excited about the Renegades? No one I would say!
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I hear about arrogance in local government. Why do County politicians thing that they deserve a SUITE without paying when I have to pay hard earned wages. Pay the Renegades the money they are owed!
ReplyDeleteI regularly chug Glazers out dated baby gravy. Since he is loaded up on roids and growth hormone, not to mention every std known to man, will the residual drugs and bugs transfer through his dusty baby batter to my bloodstream, via my herpes blistered blow hole?
ReplyDeleteLeeeeeave Craig Aloooooone........
ReplyDeleteI think Glazer is just sending us all a 'hopeful' line of maybe's. Like he clearly pointed out, the two teams have stunk it up for years, both are trying to change their ways, maybe we will see some major improvements. On the other hand maybe not. That's all. Wishful thinking. Glazer in the past has been hard on them both. They sure earned that.
ReplyDeleteGlaze...the few old cranky guys
ReplyDeletewho we didn't run off of this
site still are mad/angry and
most importantly jealous.
We're down to just a few of the losers still on here.
Looks like chuckles the sad clown remains and obviously stupid dave
from kcc and the last real
loser is smarmyman who really must
stop cleaning those diseased
hot tubs because the cleaning
chemicals are geting to his brain.
Nice article. Nothing new here
just a lot of hopeful thinking.
The real problem remainsis that
the royals lack the winning manager who can get this raw talent
to play to its true potential.
But...hope springs eternal ino
baseball and just as we hopethe
last of the kcc holdovers go back
to their little site and comment
amongst themselves.
How sad..a simple article about
sports and they're still spewing their hate and venom because they
have no life.
Just a few straglers left...they're
old and losing it...
again nice article...but remember
i said ku would go to the final four on the backs of ben and withy
and we're seeing that come true
in the last few games.
Haith finaly showed some emotion but it might be too late.
As for allthose fair weather fans
who talk and talk (sorry glaze
you're one of the them) and sit
and complain and complain and bith
and moan all season long...harley
remains a huge royals fan.
I invite all my kcc buddies and
followers to come on out to the
stadiums for opening day and the
30-40 other games we'll be at tis
season and look for us up by the
george brett suite. Our escalator
friend is gone so it might be a little harder to get up there this
year (we used to bribe him with
gates barbq certificaates) but anywhere in the park is fun.
Andthis could be the year to really
have some fun.
And in the spring everything is
isgreat...
go royals...go chiefs!!!!!!!!!
p.s..Iam not posting under the
:"real harley"account name..
this is an imposter...but to contact me my email addressis
law4life1000@yahoo.com.
thanks..have a great day.
set your clocks back!!!!!!
"Nice article. Nothing new here just a lot of hopeful thinking."
ReplyDeleteAnd from your own mouth, harley, the worst possible thing that could be said about Glazer's latest screed.
As much as I disagree with Tony's neo-libertarian, anti-government take that often puts him into the self-contradictory box of complaining about high taxes while demanding a level of perfect city services that is impossible for any city to satisfy, at least his blog is edgy and original.
Until Glazer limped in when even the unbearable Hearne Christopher found him too unbearable.
And what have we gotten since he arrived here? Weekly advertorials about the latest "icon" and "legend" appearing this week and this week only at Stanford & Sons, truly horrible betting tips on the Super Bowl and K-State-KU game, a couple of life philosophy screeds such as "follow your dreams" and "don't judge others" that would embarrass a 15-year-old at a high school speech competition, his chest-thumping of how he will sell his book to Hollywood any day now about how he took on the Colombian drug cartel by arranging a drug deal with undercover federal narcs, and now this: "Nothing new here just a lot of hopeful thinking."
World Class Jerkoff
ReplyDeleteOh, and Glazer? This "strong, young pitching staff" now includes 31-year-old James Shields, 30-year-old Ervin Santana, 34-year-old Jeremy Guthrie, and quite possibly, 36-year-old (in June) Bruce Chen.
ReplyDeleteCraig you can't win for losing. Upbeat piece on our pro teams and all you get it hell. I liked it and hope it comes true.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I can't help thinking, Joel.
ReplyDeleteIf Sam Mellinger wrote this "upbeat piece on our pro teams" that is unworthy of a high school newspaper, Tony would we all over it calling Mellinger a shill for the Chiefs and Royals, and griping how out of touch with reality the "deadtree media" is.
6:16....sorry old geezer...i know thattimeis running out for you.
ReplyDeleteSocial security check is getting
cut and you haven't got much time
to go.
If you read my comment..i said
great article...but just like every
other fan in kc...its wishful
thinking until the real season
starts...duh....
so stfu and read the comments
instead of trying to analyze every
word.
1. you can't read
2. you need glasses to see what i said
3. its a nice great article summing
up what everyones saying...i said
nothing negative but being an old
cranky man you read negative into it.
SEE HERE'S THE DEAL WITH THIS
OLD GUY.
i said nothing negative..but your
wretched old negative attitude
showed thru. You hate tony..you
hate glaze...you hate harley..you
hate the writing here..you hate
the world.
which is so sad for someone to not
wake up with a positive attitude.
AT 6:16 AM...BARELY OUT OF BED YOU'RE HATING PEOPLE..YOU'RE HATING
THE WORLD.
HOW BAD A LIFE DO YOU LEAD?
SERIOUSLY DUDE...YOU WAKE UP MAD..
I SURE HATE TO SEE YOU AT 5PM..
IT MUST BE REALLY BAD BEING YOU!!!!!
3/7/13, 10:02 PM
ReplyDeleteI would hope no one at the county is buying a suite at Kemper.
Again thank you for all the comments. Even the mean ones are funny. Had fun today with Michael Mack on radio and TV5 with Kelly Jones, great show this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes the Chiefs and Royals are still just a hopeful situation, just seems its moving in the right direction, but like many of you say its been that way before and no dice. So for now lets hope for the best and see how it works out.
hey wilson?..stop the negative comments.
ReplyDeleteyou're giving yourself away on these comments.
this site is for the positive
