SURPRISE!!! TOY TRAIN STREETCAR TAKES CASH FROM KANSAS CITY'S BUS SYSTEM!!!

It's not exactly news to ANYBODY who considers the reality of paying more than $100 mil for a bit of "transit" that only travels about 2 miles.

Check it:

Kansas City's latest budget plan would divert $2 million away from ATA toward downtown project. Now it's clear where that money is likely to come from: The bus system.

Interesting . . . Never mind AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS said pretty much the same thing last month.

Even better . . .

IT'S NICE THAT DEAD TREE MEDIA IS FINALLY STARTING TO INVESTIGATE A BUDGET THE CITY MANAGER CALLS "STRUCTURALLY UNBALANCED" AND OBVIOUSLY SYMPTOMATIC OF KANSAS CITY'S SCREWED UP PRIORITIES UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF MAYOR SLY AND CITY COUNCIL!!!

In other words . . . The Toy Train isn't transit . . . It's an eco-devo pipe dream that actually takes cash away from REAL transit options on which po'folk rely.

Exactly, Mr B! We have an ADEQUATE bus system n our city which could b improved if ridership went up, namely f the HIPSTERS started actually started riding th buses instead of driving their CARS! But, NO! Instead, HIPSTERS r characterized as young people whose IDEALS far exceed their ACTIONS, and who r more concerned with IMAGE than w actual SUBSTANCE! Consequently, this city is paying for a fantasy tailor made to accesorize their images!

These hipsters are like spoiled children with their arms folded tight and scowls on their scraggly bearded horn rimmd faces w th city pleading, c'mon.... use public transportation... and they're saying, NO! Not until its something COOL, like the TUBE, or a SUBWAY TRAIN!

  3. er, ah..."loot" might be the word you want there.

And yes, the toy train does indeed loot the ATA budget.

    As others have said:
    A city that works.
    Just not for you.

  4. Good comment, 6:41. Kansas City once again takes from the poor who use the bus and gives to the yuppie wannabes who can't figure out how to get from River Market to Union Station.

  9. “It seems to me that if you have things that roll over the roads, you kind of need to take care of the roads they roll over,” he said. (Sly James)

DOH!!!! Funkhouser looks like Einstein with statements like that being common place downtown.

    Mr. Tony,
The smugness of our Mayor Sly James is the same corrupt quality displayed by the failed and hideously flawed Funkhouser. His way or the highway. Poor folk be damned! THIS STUPID TRAIN IS HIS IDEA, (along with the super silly Russ Johnson man-child). THE SUBSEQUENT FAILURE IS HIS LEGACY.
Mr. James' desire to create a legacy reeks of callousness towards those dependant on our inadequate public transit. Let Mr. James forgo his chauffeured huge SUV and ride the bus for two weeks. I'll even buy his bus pass. He does qualify for a reduced fare, right?
This planned juvenile train is no better than the one that loops the zoo.
This planned juvenile train should look like Thomas the Train. We could try for corporate sponsorship.
This planned juvenile train takes mobility from our neighbors who ride the buses to get to work, not to a smarmy creative class enclave.
God damn the man and his impotence. Mr.James can't actually DO something for our city, thus we suffer his juvenile train with the inevitable money drain from basic services.
Fuck him and his ....train. Oh, excuse me.

Now you make the best of this day and remember, if you hop on a bus make sure you get home before 7pm or you will be stranded.

  12. Seems a couple of you are preoccupied with 'hipsters'. They will continue driving their cars. It's everybody who can't live on 8-9 dollars an hour who can't afford to keep a car on the road.

  13. Hard to believe they actually pulled this off. It's no wonder they didn't put it to a city wide vote it would have never passed!

  14. I'd say that giving away $15,000.00 of the taxpayer's money is "structurally imbalanced"...

  15. $100 Million Dollars

Get 2000 people downtown to fork out $50,000 and their toy train is paid for.

  17. And don't forget about Dave Johnson. He wants the toy train as his own personal transportation from his hipster loft condo to his downtown mcjob. And to all the meetings of the streetcar authority board that he managed to get himself put on. All members of that board have a financial interest in the streetcar and are going to make money off of it. Funny how these things work.

  18. Russ and Sly are ruining this City with their bizarre streetcar agenda.

  20. Eliminate the bus routes North of the River and out of Kansas City. It keeps all the trash out of Gods country, and won't raise my prices while people from the ghetto come and steal from Zona Rosa, Independence Center area, and the new shopping area in Lee's Summit. The ghetto ruined Blue Ridge Mall, Bannister Mall, and are in the process of trying to ruin the Plaza, Zona Rosa, Independence Center, and the Lee's Summit shopping centers. Here is an idea, if you can't afford to buy it, get a job, save some money and then go and buy it. Stop taking things that don't belong to you. Eventually you will attempt to rob a store that I am in, and I will smoke you to get the point across.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Ghetto" people drive cars just like 95% of everyone else, dipshit.

No one robs you then goes to the bus stop to wait 15 minutes to get away.

Bus lines/transit line have 0% statistical correlation with crime. The nicest, toniest, richest neighborhoods in America have bus and transit line right through them, places that make the northland look like the bland non-place that it is.
