In the recent propaganda session regarding the alleged "economic impact" of The All-Star Game Mayor Sly shared a typically lame story that revealed his hope for a taxpayer subsidized Downtown Convention Hotel.
A TKC TIPSTER tells us this . . .
"It wasn't subtle at all . . . He said something to the effect of . . . People love Kansas City, they say 'Build a hotel and we'll come back' everyone raised an eyebrow because we're coming into budget meetings and it's very clear there's no money for the hotel and most people considered it a dead issue."
Nevertheless . . . Among Kansas City's political set, Mayor Sly earns high praise for passing TWO FOREVER TAXES DURING A RECESSION so his hotel notions should be taken seriously.
Our tax & spend mayor wants to take another step toward bankrupting the city.
ReplyDeleteAdd up the coin spent on this white elephant and search for the staff and Council who have spent public money on this boondoggle and start asking "why did you not fund your pension obligations?" and we will begin to get to a meaningful dialogue.
ReplyDeleteNow Marcasson wants employees to share in the pain created by years of unrestrained spending on trains, hotels, and tax breaks for contributors.
The problem isn't taxing AND spending. It's just spending, and spending, and spending on "projects" that have NO chance of ever actually generating any money to pay their own way.
ReplyDeleteAren't the P&L District and all the upside down TIF projects enough already?
Yup, let's us build a convention center and dedicate it to the Chief's win in the Super Bowl!! Both are incredibly unlikely...
ReplyDeleteWho's this "we" in "we'll come back"? The baseball people? We won't have another All-Star Game for 30+ years, by which time we'll have a downtown ballpark unless this city is completely bankrupt and like Detroit by then. Ironically, the downtown ballpark would have been a damn good reason to build a streetcar.
ReplyDeleteThe new hotel and the toy train will solve our homicide and crime problems. This issue is so important to the Mayor and Council that I know this must be part of the solution, right?
ReplyDeleteSame old cycle. We need a big hotel.
ReplyDeleteThen...we need a new convention center!
And back again.
Everywhere I look I see hotels.
ReplyDeleteWe have plenty enough hotels to fill everything in this area with events.
They have these things called busses and shuttles that move people around for these events.
The real issue that KC isn't on the convention circuit anymore is there just isn't any attraction to pull people into here.
Now what is really stupid about that is we sit in a prime location for being the convention center of the whole United States. But sadly we are blessed with idiot Mayors and other city leaders who have no business background so they are clueless how to make it happen.
We could have a Vegas type atmosphere right here in KC if we had the right people in office. If you build it they really will come. But idiot toy trains isn't the right kind of building and adding idiot areas like P&L are not going to pull them in. This would be a huge Metro Area effort where all benefit from it not just a few. But nope won't happen because idiots like Shoe Shine boy get elected who have no vision let alone any common sense.
Maybe we need to erect statues about what idiots civic leaders were after they leave office to send a message to the next idiot who thinks he wants to be Mayor.
Not putting the stadium downtown next to the P&L will haunt KC for decades to come
ReplyDeleteThe stadium was downtown before where it is now.
ReplyDeleteThey moved it out there where there was more room without destroying a lot of neighborhoods.
Trying to move the stadiums back downtown isn't going to solve anything.
Shit hole town & a turd for a mayor.
ReplyDeleteWe can only hope that once he gets his new convention hotel and new airport terminal, he will turn his attention to the people that live in KCMO. Fat chance!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern has been the same for years. Build a new convention hotel which sits empty most of the time. Then our leaders will announce we have to expand the convention center so we can get the conventions to fill up the new hotel. We expand the convention center and then are told be can't get conventions because we don't have enough hotels.
