Yes, we've heard a bit about Mayor Slay's visit but nothing about Kansas City connections to the cause which are implied but never explicitly stated and without much question from Dead Tree Media journalists who are polite and don't want to offend the people who do most of their footwork.
Mr. Glorioso has long been on record for reorganization and cost cutting at The Kansas City Police Department and reform in local government. For insiders this move is no surprise but it has been almost completely unreported.

ReplyDeleteThe KCPD already is under local control - the members of the Board of Police Commissioners are required by law to be Kansas City residents. The difference is, under the current system the BOPC members are appointed by the Governor, rather than the City Manager/Mayor/City Council being the defacto overseers.
ReplyDeleteEven as cynical as I am, even I don't truly believe every council person is self-serving and corrupt in nature. However, take a look at some of the past and present members of the City Council and ask yourself, "Do I really want those people in the KCPD chain of command?" Considering the illegal activities, ethical lapses, and political strong-arm tactics of past and present City Council members, do we REALLY want them having direct control over police activities and functions, or are we better off have the current BOPC system as a buffer?
I believe Steve"Sat It Don't Spray It" Glorioso has already been proven to be a contemptible liar (see 12:52). Any cause he is openly attached to is damaged.
