Yesterday, it was all doom and gloom at The Jackson County Courthouse.
To wit . . .
EXPECT MORE JACKSON COUNTY LAYOFFS THANKS TO MISSOURI AUSTERITY MEASURES!!!
For years now Jackson County has been cutting workers but this latest round of layoffs seems even more serious . . . Probably because bigger salaries and top level jobs will be at stake.
In yesterday's legislative session Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders noted that 35 to 40 jobs were going to be cut by the start of the New Year. Even JaxCo Prosecutor "Mean" Jean Peters-Baker talked about realigning programs to meet with budget demands.
All things considered, it's going to be a blood bath among County Workers once again.
And that's when we start playing the blame game.
Kansas City insiders warn . . .
"The County Executive usually takes the heat for layoffs," A Kansas City Insider said. "If these layoffs aren't strategic then we're talking about a ripple effect that will circulate and create a lot of dissatisfaction among voters and residents."
So . . . It seems as if the upcoming and ongoing GREAT RECESSION is part of the reason the CURSE OF THE JAXCO THIRD TERM is more than just a myth . . . It's becoming part local political reality for County Executive Mike Sanders.
DEVELOPING . . .
Just wait till we fall off the fiscal cliff.
ReplyDeleteState of Misery & City Hall of the Disfunctional,
ReplyDeleteMike is making more enemies and those that will run against him are just waiting in the wings.
ReplyDeleteIt's not Mike's fault. Blame the Republican thugs in Jeff City.
ReplyDeleteCould this be the smaller govt
ReplyDeleteCkaire was talking about? Smaller and more efficient.
Stop playing footsy with the Mayor on TIF and Chapter 100!
ReplyDeleteIts not all doom and gloom for Jackson County. They have a beautiful taxpayer funded sports complex for two of the most inept sports franchises in America. Of course those laid off workers can't afford to go there but they can take pride in their leaders vision for the county.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Calvin the cupcake will take a pay cut.Maybe he will only get 150000 a year and a car.
ReplyDeleteI guess Kander will not be getting a job in the prosecutor's office after he is the only statewide Democratic candidate to lose for a state office.
ReplyDeleteThe taxpayers and residents won't be unhappy because they don't get anything from Jackson County government anyway.
ReplyDeleteIt's just the political grifter appointees and friend-of-a-friend employees who will have to look for actual jobs.
And if Mean Jean has to cut back on programs, how is she going to fund the new NoVa program from Cincinnati taht's gong to turn around crime, violence, and homicdes in KCMO? Dead even before it starts? That has to be a new record!
10/2/12 8:15 AM Kander could not do that anyway because we know he cannot practice law.
ReplyDeleteThe County is a powder keg with Sanders on top
ReplyDeleteInstead of worrying about taking over the sports authority he should worry about his own house
ReplyDeleteLayoff won't help his political future
ReplyDeleteI have worked for the County 25 years been thru many County Executives he is the worst
ReplyDeleteJackson County has a money problem all except the payroll heavy second floor,we will see how many layoffs in skippys office.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to vote against Sanders.
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno should run
ReplyDeleteEvery week their is a different Crisis in the County Mike announce it and then take a taxpayer paid trip.
ReplyDeleteSherry will get a raise after the cuts.
ReplyDeleteMike Sanders has been incredibly inept. He doesn't know how to lead. He doesn't understand how to build respect. Respect leads to loyalty. Skippy is disrespectful towards all thus Skippy is disloyal towards backers, constituents and staff.
ReplyDeleteSkippy is a useless person.
I will vote against him.
Mike is out of the game after this term. Just watch.
ReplyDeleteInteresting we are having these layoffs after the appraisers came out and lied about house values just to keep the tax revenue up. You could never tell the housing values crashed in Jackson County. I guess those high priority stadiums really drain the county budget.
ReplyDeleteHadn't thought of that. My bungalow is still in the high end of the value spectrum for the neighborhood...pre-crash values. Still have one foreclosure on the block.
ReplyDeleteTony, let's start a huge revolt and everyone challenge the new tax values
Mike is making it easy for Victor to run him out and dont forget about the Levotas they are playing nice now but alot of anger there.
ReplyDeleteNothing is forever in politics
ReplyDeleteActually most of the same old names in jackson County and KCMO politics ARE forever! Especially on the east side
ReplyDeleteIf only instead of these musical chairs some folks who actually thought about government working in behalf of the taxpayers instead of empire and legacy building would run and finally clean the system of the same old grifters and duds.
No sign of that, though!
Broke is broke not matter who is in office.Only so many ways to cut the pie.
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to watch a democrat led city govt run out of other people's money.
