KC INSIDERS SAY COUNCIL WILL RUIN CIDS!!!

I won't dwell on this one because Kansas City Community Improvement Districts (CIDs) are REALLY boring . . . But City Hall gossip is not.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY BIZ INSIDERS NOTE THAT THE COUNCIL IS BASICALLY RUINING CIDS WITH OVER REGULATION AND POLITICAL MEDDLING!!!

Here's a more objective view . . .

Neighborhoods And Developers Weigh In On CIDs

Sadly, none of the reporting on this subject lets people know what's going on behind the scenes . . . Yes, we all know this is a reaction to Larry Sells and the Uptown Area CID proposal run amock . . .

But there's more fun to be had . . .

What's really interesting is Council Dude Ed Ford fighting for control of this issue and begging other Council people to leave the topic to his discretion.

His repeated pleas to keep other council folks from tinkering with new CID rules and regs alienated most people from the discussion but kept his P&Z fiefdom intact.

However, the secret to any success obtained by CIDs doensn't have a lot to do with local government.

One insider says . . .

"CIDs only work because of a lack of control by the Council. CIDs were formulated as an answer to City Hall mismanagement and allow business owners an opportunity to direct resources that would have been otherwise squandered by elected officials. I'm sure these new regulations are going to do nothing but crackdown on small business. City Council micromanagement was exactly the kind of thing CIDs were created to avoid."

And while business both big and small continue to leave the City limits. I guess it's good to know that local government politicos are at least making progress when it comes to developing and perfecting new taxing schemes.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. They've already ruined Kansas City. They might as well run everything else into the ground. This Mayor and Council by far are the dumbest muthafuckers to walk this earth.

  4. Just what the fuck has any CID (community improvement district) ever REALLY accomplished? They have Directors and other employees, who milk the money out but what has been done by their existance?? What?

  5. A one business CID is just a sham. A retailer tacks on 1%, call it a tax and keeps the funds. Why not just raise the price of the product 1%? Because they trick the consumer by adding it on after the purchase.

  6. CIDs on Main Street are keeping it clean as are the ones in Waldo. They seem to be working, unlike the council.

By the way, John Sharp. Thanks for not responding to my emails. You are aware your boundaries now include a large part of Waldo, aren't you? I've always thought you were useless, but at least I wasn't in your district. Now that's changed and you're both useless AND my representative.

  7. 10/26/12 6:57 AM Main Street CID is awesome! It's working wonders for that area. People out to be more educated on what's happening in the City. If you don't know, ask politely.

  8. We love our CID in Rivermarket. The people in yellow coats sweep our streets by hand. And that is about it.
