This morning we have the rare opportunity to start the week by acknowledging someone brave enough to speak truth to power in Kansas City in a situation where money, prestige and career is on the line.
ERIC WINSTON CALLING OUT CHIEFS FANS CHEERING MATT CASSEL INJURY IS THE MOST COURAGEOUS THING KANSAS CITY PRO SPORTS HAS SEEN IN DECADES!!!
Despite the fact that (boring) elections are now only a month away, Eric Winston's words will be the only thing people are talking about this morning.
USA Today: Eric Winston rips Chiefs fans for cheering Matt Cassel injury
ESPN: Eric Winston voices opinion of fans
CBS Sports: Chiefs: Eric Winston 'sickened' by fans cheering after Matt Cassel's injury
Complex: Chiefs OL Eric Winston Had Some Choice Words for the Fans that Cheered Matt Cassel's Injury
Deadspin: “It’s Sickening. And I was Embarrassed”: Eric Winston Responds To Kansas City Fans Cheering Matt Cassel Injury
Fox Sports: Chiefs OT Winston speaks--but is done talking
Denizens of this blog regularly comment on the tragic taxpayer supported behavior of Chiefs fans that ranges from parking lot sex to dangerous brawling and a great deal of public drunkenness that never earns a crackdown from authorities.
But beyond that . . .
Eric Winston was 100% CORRECT to express his disdain for any fan callous enough to cheer the injury of Matt Cassel.
There's no qualifying or explaining that kind of unsportsmanlike and really savage behavior that hides behind the anonymity of the crowd/mob.
For anyone who has the least experience with the game of football (and TKC was rather awesome during long ago playing days) the injuries and reality of the brutality of the game are real and not just weekend entertainment. Eric Winston's comments hopefully remind this town about ideals related to sportsmanship and should shame fans who celebrate human suffering. More important than winning or losing, Eric Winston bravely stood in opposition to fans who would dehumanize others for the sake of their own pleasure and called out a shameful attitude of expediency that reflects poorly on Kansas City.
Wonder if he gets traded?
ReplyDeleteFuck him! The fans were cheering a NEW qb, not dumb-asses injury. The fucking chiefs are so lame, they can't even complain right. Bunch of stinking losers!! ALL of em.
ReplyDeletemaybe he should just SHUT UP and do something for all of those millions he is collecting.....
ReplyDeleteListened to it live. Ripping the fans over the cheering isn't the only point he made. And regardless of whether you agree with him or not, he stood up for his team and teammates in a way nobody else has, from the front office to the coaching staff. Thank you Mr. Winston.
ReplyDeleteEric Winston is a joke. Throwing the whole fan base under the bus because of a few idiots. Fuck him, Chiefs fans get shit on constantly by this organization and now a player is shitting all over the entire fan base because he is pussy. Pack your bags Winston and fuck off.
ReplyDeleteWinston did the right thing for calling out assholes in the crowd who cheered an injury for ANY player on ANY team. Of course, I do understand why Chiefs fans feel the way they do. Every year I pony up for two season tickets, including to bullshit preseason games, at $100 plus per ticket per game. And what I've gotten for a decade now is a non-competitive football club. It's unacceptable that Romeo Crennel is our coach and Matt Cassell is our quarterback, after all these years of "rebuilding". So Eric, you made your point. How about going out there and doing your fucking job to protect your quarterback now?
ReplyDeleteKind of like the movie Idiocracy where fans at the stadium laugh at people getting mutilated.
ReplyDeleteGrow some Winston!! You are gladiators (over paid ones) and arrowhead is The Colesium (taxpayer funded)...all evidence of a nation in serious decline!!
ReplyDeleteJust throw Christians to the lions during Half Time to entertain the fans and satisfy their lust for blood.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless Fucking Amerika!
Never dreamed I would live to see the day when I would end up hating my own country. Now that's hell.
ReplyDeleteJabba the blogger was probably the first person snickering at this and now were supposed to believe that he's going to take a moral stand. HA!
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me of Buffalo Bob from Joe Dirt; very creepy.
ReplyDeleteThat's OK Eric, I'll make you feel better...let me suck your nuts!
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you assholes think you deserve a better team?
ReplyDeleteA lot of life imitates Mike Judge's prophecies from Idiocracy.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Eric sounds like a whiny little bitch.
Looks like blown protection on the QB. Sour grapes perhaps? Gotta turn the attention away from what really happened to get Cassel knocked down in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThese people are entertainers. Winston stop crying about someone who is rude, stupid, or has poor taste during your performance. Live in the real world. Calling out fans is not a bright move. Fans buy tickets, hence pay your salary.
SUCKAS!!!!!!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid it look bad? Sure it did. But 99.9% of the fans were cheering for a change in quarterback.
ReplyDeleteChiefs management and head coach should be embarrassed for letting a situation like that happen. They're the ones that need to grow a pair.
This reminds me of the Elvis Grback situation. It's unbelievable that both Cassel and Grback made it to the Pro Bowl.
Bench Cassel and give him a reason to earn his position back. I'll bet he can't. It's a shame, he's a likeable guy until he plays.
Who is this Winston guy?
ReplyDeleteI like the cut of his jib.
Fans don't pay salary.
ReplyDeleteTaxpayers do.
IF THE FUCKING LINEMAN DO THEIR JOB PRETTY BOY CASSEL DOESN'T GET HURT...FUCK ERIC WINSTON...GO FIND A NEW TEAM YOU PUSSY!!!
ReplyDelete1:09pm Are you really so dense that you think we (taxpayers) pay the salaries of the chiefs players? Hopefully your referring to the scandal at the Chiefs and Royals stadium in regard to the repair and maintenance money being spent on other things...but they expressly are not being paid to the players. The players salaries are mostly from the tv revenue.
ReplyDeleteWithout taxpayers the teams couldn't exist. Therefore we bear the burden of the teams. This is irrefutable.
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a truncated syllogism and it is based on a flawed tautology.
ReplyDeletePlease come back when to grow the fuck up.
OOOPS!!!!! dat defensive lineman done jus gots by me AGAIN!!!!! Sheeet man!!!!
ReplyDeleteByron is a lying asshole. He promised to leave this blog when his smarter brother Mark was no longer mayor. Typical democrat.
ReplyDeleteYep we should all be banned from attending another Chiefs game for the next three seasons. We should shut that overpriced stadium down as further punishment to the taxpayers. They should halt the sale of 8 dollar hot dogs, flat beer and $50.00 logo shirts to make us all suffer. The taxpayers of Jackson County seriously need to adjust their attitude when it comes to franchised sports around here..
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to agree with you T.
ReplyDeleteWinston is a class act. He gives a bit of real leadership where there is none.
fair weather fans...
ReplyDeleteEvery shithole cowtown needs a sports team...Kansas City has the Chiefs AND the Royals!!! We're so lucky, Yipeeee!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if these pampered cocksuckers actually pay the 1% KC earnings tax?!!
ReplyDeleteNow, that would be one hell of an investigative reporting story right there boys!!
They not only have to pay the 1 percent earnings tax, but they or their agents have to withold and pay the Missouri entertainment tax.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless Eric Winston. He sets a fine example.
ReplyDeleteNow we just need to follow it and start playing better!
