  2. So does offical department car abuse as well going to continue?

Is Chiefy still going to get out of bed on those 10 below zero 3:00am call outs on shooting victims?

I think all Chiefy is going to do is play media game with the public saying to them what he thinks they want to hear just like the good little politician ass kisser he is.

  3. Homicides are at a five year low, but it would be silly to not consider other factors. There is no determinable causation to support the use of HSP.

Additionally, there is empirical evidence that supports that this practice does not work. On top of that, officers will gladly tell you that the hot spots are so big they take up entire patrol districts -thereby nullifying the the program altogether.

Research suggests that crimes such as homicides can't be prevented because causal factors are so diverse that police presence is insignificant. Not only that, but many homicides occur indoors, where HSP doesn't matter.

The good news is that your local PD is addressing a need, and doing their best to solve a problem. For that, they should be commended.

  4. "Officers will do more car check". Really Chief? I guess your planning on your specialized units for that one. Take a poll from the beat cop! Guarantee, 80% or higher wont be doing anything more than answering calls for service. The Chief probably put that comment out there because of the audit he did on all the patrol officers. True story! Just ask around.

  5. Nothing's going to happen to reduce violence and homicides until residents in the most affected neighborhoods make themselves a part of the solution. That means, first, wanting to live in safer communities; second, banding together and no longer putting up with the thug behavior that's so in vogue; third working with some established neighborhood associations to learn how to build more cohesive neighborhoods; and fourth, coming to an understanding with the police that both they and the cops have legitimate beefs about what's gone on in the past, but without trust, uderstanding, and cooperation now, the vilence will continue and the east side will keep sliding.
How about some leadership from the east side?

  6. If the chief thinks his department is concentrating on hot spots he might want to audit his GPS contract.
