Like it or not, requirements for local municipalities to meet MBE/WBE goals just happen to be the law of the land. In Kansas City this requirement is rarely met and even worse, there are often minority front companies willing to help fake these rules and regs.
And then there's the Green Zone.
I thought the project was about weather stripping for homes but now they're refurbishing old and busted schools and other buildings. Currently, even Mayor Sly is celebrating new developments in the Green Zone.
TKC EXCLUSIVE . . . Let's not forget that KCMO is taking $150k out of the General Fund this week for the Green Zone.
And wasn't there some recent news about the guy who hold Angelina Jolie's leg helping out in Green Zone Development.
All that is well and good but thankfully a TKC TIPSTER recently sent me a note titled: "The Grifters sending out grifting opportunity notices"
It's an interesting e-mail chain touting bid opportunities for the Bancroft project in the Green Zone. And it provides a great look at how Green Zone biz is done.
Money line:
"Please help the Green Impact Zone spread the word to local MBE/WBE established sub-contractors (licenses, insurance, paperwork, etc.) about the Bancroft Pre-Bid meeting. (see details on attached PDF). This is not an opportunity for individuals looking for employment. We will be working towards the next steps to address the "individual" job opportunities through the various sub-contractors selected."
Some of the communications are from MARC, JE DUNN and they're looking for minority sub-contractors . . . Who might even hire Mexicans (OH, NO) before you completely blame people of color, note that there big name mostly white firms in the mix of Green Zone development as well . . . And that reminds me of my favorite line from The Godfather Trilogy: "We're both part of the same hypocrisy . . ." I've redacted most of the names but it it's interesting reading and provides a behind the scenes glimpse of Green Zone development in action.

All -
I hope this email finds you well and you enjoyed a safe and happy holiday break. The Bancroft team is making great progress with the design/ construction documents and wanted to circulate the opportunity for local sub-contractors to attend a pre-bid meeting at JE Dunn to walk through the construction document set and move towards bid submission that will be due in late July. The Pre-Bid meeting will be held at JE Dunn on July 18, 2012 at 1:00 PM with bids due on July 25th.
This is the first step in our approach at identifying local workforce development opportunities and everyone that received this email can assist with that outreach. Please review the pre-bid notice that JE Dunn created and forward it to anyone you think may have an interest in a bid opportunity for the Bancroft project. We are welcome to suggestions and we will present a more comprehensive approach in the near future to the Manheim neighborhood.
Thanks in advance and feel free to reach out with questions/comments.

This is a follow up to the announcement we sent last week (see forwarded email below and attached) regarding the renovation of Bancroft school. It has been communicated to us that this provides union and non-union opportunities. Please forward the attached to WBE/MBE contractors in your personal and professional circle. This is not an opportunity for individuals looking for employment. We will be working towards the next steps to address the "individual" job opportunities through the various sub-contractors selected.

There is a certain point in the decomposition of BULLSHIT when it turns green, as well.
ReplyDeleteEveryone at the Green Impact Zone is a fucking grifter!!
ReplyDeleteMore give aways to the brothers...
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the problem. It's an invitation to bid, and mbe/wbe businesses are encouraged to apply. They are noting that it's not at the level of individual jobs yet, since subs are the ones who generally hire the individuals who do the work. What's the problem?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard an MBE cry when they don't get a contract? It's like taking food from a hungry, well fed, but yet still ungrateful dog.
