SIX MONTH KCPD CSI BACKLOG!!!

Star reports that Kansas City police don't get the kind of tech support seen on CBS: "A Kansas City police detective needing DNA results from a shooting scene often has to wait nearly six months to get them."

  1. A lot of property crimes evidence doesn't even get checked within the statute of limitations for the crime being investigated.

  2. This is so awful- and we can lay some of the blame on the COMBAT slush fund. There is NO excuse that our elected officials, Jean included, for not prioritizing a fully- funded and staffed regional crime lab funded In part by by COMBAT. The law enforcement folks are busy doing worthless DART shit on the taxpayer's dime, which, speaking from first-hand experience, is a waste of time and resources. Where is the leadership?

  3. Congratulations, Kansas City. This is what happens when your city council doesn't provide pay parity with surrounding jurisdictions. Its been happening to the police officers for awhile now so many have left in droves for other, better paying departments. Anyone care to take a guess at how many of the crime scene techs simply went across the state line to work for Johnson County's crime lab? Because you can find most of our former ones working there now.

  4. Well, that is how it works in KC. Forget about investigation of property crimes. The police won't make house calls for residential or automobile break ins. You might get them to come out if you are a business on the Plaza and have one.
The KCPD has not investigated property crimes if they are merely residential break ins in decades.
That is why our family all lives elsewhere. Our children lived in the West Plaza area, trying to be "political correct". Their car was broken into so many times that they didn't even bother to replace the radio, etc. Our son in law, who was raised in JoCo was shocked when the cops told him that he could file his own police report for insurance, but they were not going to come out about a mere car break in. They laughed when he asked about taking fingerprints.

  5. Maybe after the All Star Game is gone, the mayor, council, and police board can pay some little attention to what's going on in the police department.
These articles in the Star have pointed out one obvious failing after another and on each occasion, the people who are supposed to be running the place have been "surprised".
No, that's right, after the All Star Game we're going to focus our attention on the streetcar, the new subsidized apartment building, and the new downtown hotel. Maybe when that's done?
    Not a chance.

  6. Maybe if the Sheriff's Department assisted KCPD they would have time to investigate property crimes. Since the current Sheriff could care less, I'll be voting for Littlejohn on August 7th

  7. Oh...ok Littlejohn, everybody knows you and Kevin LeBranch will be voting for you, you will get your two votes. Why don't you blame global warming and the lack of rain on Sharp as well...hell go as far to blame the failing sewers in KC on the Sheriff too, It sounds to me like you are saying that the copers in every town in Jackson county don't do their job. You are going so far over the top that you have lost your credibility and are pissing all the departments off. You lie, you cheat, and then you lie and cheat again. Pathetic, you got fired by Sharp, yes being asked to resign is being fired for not doing your job as a deputy. And now you can't get a job. So you think you can con the voters that you deserve to be elected to one. We are glad you don't work for Jackson County anymore, we know what your work ethic is like, and non of us think you are capable of having our backs.

  8. This is all Bull shit KCPD told the citizens if they passed the public safety sales tax this would go away.
KCPD is cheating and lying to the taxpayer.

  9. @5:13 Jeff go back to your hole in Buckner. Sharp is the one without ethics and it cost him with a big fat check to Littlejohn. @7:31 you are exactly right!

  10. @11:04 Nice try, your big fat check was chump change to get you to go away...everyone knows it. Worked with you, we are glad Sharp got rid of your ass and that check was a lot less than what you were bleeding from the department, you left...we got raises. Why is it that the FOP unanimously endorsed Sharp. Who knows you better than them? Or are they the bad guys now too, you can't have it both ways Dwon. You end up pissing off everyone.
