TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS NOTE A POSSIBLE CITY COUNCIL CONFLICT IN THE KANSAS CITY CVA RAID OF NTDF FUNDS!!!

The most interesting City Hall hot mess this week revolves around an effort to loot money out of Kansas City neighborhoods and into a tourist slush fund without much oversight.
Check out yesterday's post with links to a lot more detail . . . Basically, this is a story of local power players and politicos who don't even want to let neighborhoods have crumbs when it comes to taxpayer cash that could instead be siphoned off in order to run glamorous politically charged projects.
But first let's play a quick game of City Council name association . . .
Think about . . .
Potato Salad Council Lady Jan Marcason . . .

Newbie Council Dude Scott Wagner . . .

And Sessy Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Circo . . .
What do all these politicos have in common?
We'll they're all sponsors of Kansas City Ordinance #120112 - That's the effort to loot Neighborhood Development Tourist Funds.
And then . . .
Take a look at this presser from The Kansas City Convention And Visitors Association.
Notice anything special?
COUNCIL MEMBERS MARCASON, WAGNER AND CIRCO WERE ALL BOARD MEMBERS OF THE CVA AS RECENTLY AS 2010. . . AND NOW THEY'RE PUSHING FOR THAT VERY SAME GROUP TO TAKE OVER A HUGE CHUNK OF CASH SET ASIDE FOR KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOODS!!!
A TKC TIPSTER tells us . . .
"At the very least, this just doesn't look right. At worst, the close association of Council Members to a group they're now lobbying for raises questions about possible ethical conflicts. Unfortunately, at City Hall nobody ever raises an eyebrow over this kind of thing and the process to address these questions is far too slow."
And speaking of local ethics . . . Just a reminder . . . An upcoming meeting about his hot mess MIGHT WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO PROVIDE PUBLIC NOTICE regarding Thursday's party/meeting/jam session.
I'm not holding out much hope that neighborhoods stand a chance against so many local power brokers waiting in line for cash . . . However, maybe all of this talk regarding local government looting might encourage City Hall politicos to provide a bit more oversight of this CVA money and power grab rather than just helping to establish yet another Kansas City slush fund.
DEVELOPING . . .
Will this help the Royals win? Then I'm for it.
ReplyDeleteGlad it warmed up here. I saw Shitty Council members the other day and it was sooo cold they had their hands in their own pockets for a change.
ReplyDeleteLOL. It's never that cold! They've always got their hands in someone elses pocket; I'm sure it's in the job description somewhere... If not, they'll pass an ordinance to make it so.
DeleteInteresting--all City staff are currrently being forced to take an ethics "refresher" course, but the real ethics problems take place at the hands of the higher-ups, the directors and supervisors and elected officials. They are the ones who are lousy role models, and who have access to funds for unethical use. One of us might illegally mow someone's grass for them, but the real crimes are committed upstairs.
ReplyDeleteOf all the problems and neglected issues that KCMO has, these folks spend their time, and our money, arguing over this?
ReplyDeleteA perfect example of the same tired old insider dealing. The top priority for the council is whoever is standing in front of them at any given moment.
What a way a run a city!
Where is Jermaine "creme puff" Reed in all of this?
ReplyDelete"Sessy"?? You gotta be shitting us. Hell, you'd fuck a snake, if you could find it's hips....
ReplyDeleteThere should be a criminal investigation of this one.
ReplyDeleteWorking the graft!!!!
ReplyDeleteTourist development funds for Troost? Or Prospect!? 39th and Hardesty, there's a tourist trap for all the All-Star game visitors. Or Leeds Trfky and Stadium Dr, prime real estate that!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE potato salad.
ReplyDeleteIs the CVA required to have their financials audited annually, and do they include them in a reasonably accessible and generally available annual report?
ReplyDeleteLike maybe something posted on their website?
I guess if you want to make this point on the conflicts, you could say the same about CM Reed's $750k GIZ play for MARC.
ReplyDeleteThat clown is dogged by ongoing ethics violations! Where do we start? Passing ordinances to satisfy Alvin Brooks? Who is this guy working for, again? Somebody spoke out of turn and responded that he "was doing the peoples work.". I guess special interest groups are people too?
DeleteHow is this news being it's routine? I hope the tipsters pay you well for all this wasted effort.
ReplyDeleteFollow the money to Kim Carlos's firm Momentum Public Strategies.
ReplyDeleteIf corporations are people, then why can't special interest groups?
ReplyDeleteBut I thought tourism set a record last year? why change the system at works? Or do we just need to give Bill George more money?
ReplyDeleteScott Wagner sold out really fast . Of course he had a real easy election , that wont happen again. Enjoy Scott next time wont be so easy
ReplyDeleteThis city is run by the most incompetence and corrupt people in the area. And some idiots want them to control the police department? Imagine how mush more corrupt it will get.
ReplyDeleteThe CVA board has seats appointed by the city. It is a quasi-governmental agency. There is no conflict of interest here, though there is a strong smell of insiders cutting corners to expedite what they want.
ReplyDelete9:59, it is a blatant conflict of interest. Pure and simple. Any other board that had members that tried this would be shut out. The fact that it's elected officials doing it with tax dollars means they should be censured and fined.
