Thanks to AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS, the news of recall efforts facing Councilman Jermaine Reed broke first on this blog.
Now, we're getting a lot of reaction from supporters of Councilman Reed.
READ THE LATEST STATEMENT FROM CLINTON ADAMS, JR. REGARDING THE PROPOSED JERMAINE REED RECALL!!!
Mr. Adams has noted that there isn't a lot of support for this measure among the political leadership in the 3rd District.
However, it's also important to note that even if the recall is from only grassroots sources . . . The low threshold of signatures required (under 2k) makes at least the signature achievable by one person in less than a month. This is a direct consequence of low voter turnout. And the real opposition facing Councilman Reed comes from folks frustrated over his lack of concern for opposition to the new police station and crime lab.
IT'S ALSO WORTH MENTIONING THAT THE PERCEPTION OF ARROGANCE FROM YOUNG COUNCILMAN REED HAS DIRECTLY RESULTED IN SO MUCH OPPOSITION TO HIS LEADERSHIP!!!
What we're hearing is that the threat of a legal battle to protect Councilman Reed and the SOMEWHAT complicated process of filing the petitions in compliance with City Rules could prove to be an effective obstacle and protection of Councilman Reed's position.

RECALL OF JERMAINE REED
There is no factual, legal, or political basis for this misguided attempt to recall Councilman Reed. As an engaged lifelong resident of the Third District, I can assure you that there is little, if any, community support for this folderol or for the small group behind it. They should stop whining and do something constructive to help our representatives address the maladies affecting the Third District.
Jermaine Reed has been in office less than a year. During his tenure, he has been a responsive, energetic, and effective advocate for our interests on such important matters as redistricting, improving police community relations, and revitalization along the Prospect corridor. While I disagree with his proposal to change the name of Prospect to Martin Luther King Boulevard, that is not a basis for recall. Moreover, in response to community concerns, renaming Prospect is no longer a priority for Councilman Reed and he is focused on changing the conditions along the Prospect corridor to make that street worthy of Dr. King’s name. He is not guilty of any malfeasance, misfeasance, or nonfeasance. Political differences are not valid bases for recall. If that were the case, those of us who disagree with the Mayor over his proposal to takeover the KCMSD would be circulating petitions. That notion is ridiculous, as is this recall talk. Jermaine is doing a good job and should be allowed to do his job.
Most of the people I encounter are laser-focused on garnering support for the 1/8 cent sales tax for urban redevelopment saving the school district and reducing crime. We don’t need this mindless distraction and you can be assured that it will be squashed.

Two murders every week in a 50-block area on the east side and none of these folks are even interested.

Jermaine speaks bold statements to people such as “I got the power.” Really? What type of power do you have without your base? We’ve taught our children this message for too long! The message is, “It’s ok to bite the hand that feeds you and still expect continued support.” No wonder a Black 20-something is likely to shoot you in the face!!! And afterward go back to life as usual; like nothing ever happened. It’s disrespectful and devalues community! This is a game to Mr. Reed. Nothing good can come of this con-man; Reed or Adams. Alvin Brooks manipulated the people of Kansas City, MO; pushing this unqualified buffoon into politics at the most detrimental and pivotal time in the community.
