TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY'S URBAN CORE WONDERS WHAT HAPPENED TO MAYOR SLY!!!

During the campaign for Mayor, Sly James kept on referencing his childhood home on Montgall.

Now, if more than a few popular sentiments we've collected from Kansas City's Urban Summit are correct . . . There's the persistent perception that Mayor Sly might be abandoning his roots.

Evidence . . .

MAYOR SLY WAS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN A KANSAS CITY'S URBAN SUMMIT!!!

C'mon . . . Just about every leader East of Troost was in attendance and the Mayor skips out or was maybe hiding in a corner where nobody could see him?!?!?

Let's talk Kansas City voter reality . . . Sly James LOST in the Northland. The only reason Mike Burke isn't Mayor is because the Sly James team didn't lose as badly as everyone expected.

Without out an African-American voting bloc, without an overwhelming majority East of Troost. Mayor Sly James finishes a distant second.

And then . . .

AT THIS MOMENT THERE'S ALMOST NO SUPPORT FOR THE MAYOR SLY JAMES SCHOOL TAKEOVER PLAN COMING FROM EAST OF TROOST!!!

Kansas City political insiders have told us that this is an idea dreamed up by the bunch from The Civic Council and upper-middle-class people of their ilk . . . Stripping away the voting rights of this community . . . No matter how much the rest of the city doesn't like their decisions won't ever be a popular move. More on this later . . .

Finally . . .

MAYOR SLY SEEMS MORE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING OTHER PARTS OF THE METRO AND NOT KANSAS CITY'S URBAN CORE!!!

The Mayor is working on expensive toy trains that don't really transport anyone in particular . . . He quickly stepped up to Save The Plaza from mostly African-American flash mobs . . . But, again, he hasn't said much about the proposed 1/8 sales tax for the urban core . . . Or the Ollie Gates tax free plan or anything solid.

Like it or not . . . Voters East Of Troost are a big reason Mayor Sly is in office. I'm not sure if Mayor Sly and his team have taken this idea to heart, but voters East Of Troost certainly aware of this fact according to all of the reports we're hearing from Kansas City's Urban Summit.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. He'll be fine. Brook side will help.

  2. Brookside, not Brook side.

  3. These stupid, fucking people on the East side. Why don't they worry more about teaching their chilrens right from wrong and quit trying to screw more money out of KC, via the school district. Fuckin' crooks...

  4. In the last election there was a TOTAL of 5000 votes from the east side. That's in a council district that has about 65,000 residents.
Just like the West side, when folks don't vote, someone else chooses for them.
Why should Sly support ideas like Gwen Grant and Clinton Adams running the schools further into the ground while further enriching themselves and their friends at taxpayer expense, Gates' notion that a sales tax is what's holding back developement on the east side, or the latest nonsense about all KCMO taxpayers funding what amounts to a super Green Impact Zone.
How about some basics first: Parental supervision; individual responsibility; working hard in school; contributing to the community;cooperating with the police.
When at least some of that is done, then there'll be at least a little foundation to build a decent community on.
And with all the money the NAACP, the Urban League, the SCLC, the FEC, and all the other folks on the east side blow through, surely someone can offer some programs that address those basic issues.
The doors have been open for a very long time and folks like Sly and many others have worked hard and walked through the doorway. MLK didn't atlk about victimization and entitlement. He spoke of empowerment.
So lace up your boots and put an oar in the water or the boat will continue to sail without you.

  5. You realize, of course, that if Gates' tax abatement is embraced and the Urban Summit recommendation is passed, that the folks getting all the sales tax money won't be paying ANY of it.
Citadel Plaza, MLK Village, Tracy Ave houses, KCPS, 18th and Vine; Green Impact Zone: What could possibly go wrong?

  6. Sly is the man.

  7. This area is not the "urban core." Since when was east of troost the "urban core"? The area is urban, but just whose "core" is this area? Another handout request.

How about an 1/8 cent sales tax that only benefits Brookside? Does that sound fair to anybody?

  8. When does Brookside get a community center????

    ReplyDelete
  9. Brookside needs a cultural heritage center, too.

  10. KC Political stratagem1/9/12, 1:26 PM

Brookside won't get shit until you elect a Northland Mayor.

    Think about it.

  11. They just need one more helping hand and the shucking and jiving will stop.
For real this time, just one more handout.

  12. We demand the right to vote for the idiots.

  13. Rise up, Brookside!

Rise up and throw off your shackles!

Don't accept being ignored any longer!

... if the rest of the City, nay the rest of the world, were as traditionally wholesome and OLD "new urbanist" as you are, what a wonderful world it would be!

  14. Geez Tony, you must get your marching orders from Gwen, who by the way, didn't have jack to do with arranging the conference. However when the Star needed a quote she stepped to the front of the line.

  15. Main Street, Westport, and Waldo (at least) have additional sales taxes that pay for cleanup, patrols, etc. This is not a new idea, and it works.

I don't know if Brookside has one.

    ReplyDelete
  16. this is not a NID or a CID proposal. This is citywide sales tax money to the tune of $12-15 million a year. Crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  17. The hood has left the hood for good.

Sly hangs with the whites now.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Don't misread gwen grant's message: if you ever want the east side to support a tax initiative, then you better approve the 1/8 sales tax that I want.
Sly James accused the people that opposed the new council boundaires of being divisive. That fool doesn't know what divisiveness means.
Clinton Adams and his sister exemplify the meaning of the word.
I'm telling you, black people in this city are waging a race war. Things will get out of control if we don't watch it.
