The TKC Weekly Power Rankings!!!

This week the Council members who enjoy junkets were at the National League of Cities Conference so this town's hot mess was somewhat limited. Nevertheless, just like Heidi Klum flexing her muscles in Allure Magazine . . . There were still plenty of power plays this week.

Here are the most powerful people in Kansas City this week:

POLITICOS

1. Ron Hunt - A Proposed School Skip Day Protest from this local activist offers a bit of pushback on controversial Kansas City, Missouri School District closings.

2. Congressman Cleaver - He came through with money for the KCMSD while everybody else was just talking.

3. Crispin Rea - Endorsements are mounting for this young politico and it looks like he has a good chance at an unpaid, tiring and thankless spot on The KCMSD School Board.

4. Chris Moreno - The chatter that the Democrat campaigner is generating on this blog alone demonstrates that he has struck fear in the heart of his opponents.

5. Mike Talboy - At the State Level, Chair of The Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee Rep. Mike Talboy is leading an effort to challenge some of Gov. Jay's cruelest budget cuts.

NEWSIES

1. Mike Hendricks - No single employee of The Kansas City Star has done as much to damage the reputation of dead tree media this week and for that Mike "Golden Ghetto D-bag" Hendricks deserves credit.

2. Michael Mahoney - Kansas City's favorite Irish newsie.

3. Barb Shelly - Championing the Old School Liberalism of the Mid-80's must be hard work.

4. & 5. Erin Little - I'm counting her twice because she's as big as a house and all of this town has been captivated by watching this preggo lady gracefully expand.

PLACES

1. Westport - A big win on St. Paddy's Day proved Kansas City's oldest party place isn't quite dead.

2. Blanc Burgers + Bottles on The Plaza - I recently had a great time at the upscale burger joint and realize that somethings are worth the money.

3. Los Tules - The small Mexican Restaurant should make a some decent cash when The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts opens IF they don't get gentrified like so many neighbors have been already.

4. Plaza Library - Wifi and a lot of computers along with a little political discourse upon entering make The Plaza Library one of the best places to get a little work done.

5. Independence - They have hockey, Sarah Palin and meth. Good for them.

This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a rather informative look at people in this town nearly as powerful as the smell from Co-Mayor Gloria Squitiro's feet.

  1. You needed to add Claire McCaskill.

  2. Moreno runs this town.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Tony keep this "series" going. You've dropped it in every once and a while, and it's great.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Moreno is a flash in the pan. He runs nothing and should find a job and quit blogging about himself.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What about BRGR in Prairie Village?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Los Tules, great food. Have been eating there since their parents owned a place there. The real deal.

I enjoyed the post Tony! Chris Moreno is the man! Name any other political consultant in Kansas City that has online blog stalkers? After reading this blog, I was glad to meet him at a fundraiser last week.

Democrats need more people with his energy.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Really like Los Tules. Has good food gringonized mexican food but wouldn't call it the "real deal". Anyone that knows authentic Mexican plates can distinguish the difference in two seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "Authentic" mexican food tends to be bland, watery slop. So I always avoid any place called "authentic".

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't know where you've eaten bland authentic Mexican plates but you're crazy 11:26.

I'd take pozole, bistec a la mexicana, mole de olla, pork with chile de arbol, tacos de bistec en chile morita, quesadillas with mole verde, panuchos de cochinita, a tostada with tinga de pollo or even something as simple as barbacoa with salsa guacamole salsa roja and salsa borracha, picadillo or chicken with chipotle cream sauce anyday over anything that not just Los Tules but every other "Mexican" restaurant in town serves.

Also note to Los Tules. The "quesadillas" that you are serving are called "sincronizadas". Authentic quesadillas are made differently.

  11. "Chris Moreno is the man! Name any other political consultant in Kansas City that has online blog stalkers?"

They all do. And in fact, Moreno's are more mild than the attacks on other politicos.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think they are the House Republican budget cuts Tony, not the Gov. Something about separation of powers gives the Legislature the ability to cut.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think Chris Moreno is an amazing guy. Always positive, friendly, respectful and all smiles. If he's consulting, I hope he sweeps the ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 12:16--the governor puts a budget forward--Nixon's contained a lot of cuts. Will again next year. Horrible but inevitable.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think everyone on this blog is a political consultant, because the rest of the world doesn't care about political consultants. I do care about the total STUPIDITY of Ron Hunt telling kids to stay home from school. As usual, use KCMO kids as pawns in your money game, isn't that what the board has done for years?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm not. I just read the blog because he tells it like it is. But get your point.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I read this blog because I'm a douche like the rest of you.

    ReplyDelete
  18. fyi the reason there was no update today is because tony was caught with an under age tranny at Missy B's last night.

    ReplyDelete
  19. AeroSquid, don't front. You know you're legal. And lovely I might add.

It was nice meeting you last night at Missy B's. *smootchies*

    ReplyDelete
  20. Talboy may be defending us, but it is making him lose his hair. Seriously, he has lost a great deal of hair since his election. Talboy...get some rogaine, before it it too late!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Plaza Library was a TIF project, take that Crosby.

    ReplyDelete
  22. NO ONE with any sense can argue against the dominance of Chris Moreno. He was even too good for a scab like Mike Talboy who is about to lose the election for Democrats.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No saturday night links? T&A disappeared?

    'sup?

  24. "Capitol" Punishment3/21/10, 8:15 AM

There is only one human being alive (male or female)who in the face of a picture of Heidi Klum (featuring her awesome figure nearly completely on display) would think of Chris Moreno and that is Chris Moreno.

Chris, it was your single-minded devotion to self-promotion coupled with your obvious disgust for women that led to your firing by the Democrat Party.

I hope you have fun shilling for Republicans before they get fed up with you too.

Yes, I know you will now come back on here along with a few family members and business partners to post comments about what a "nice guy" you are and how you never tried to intimidate that woman candidate, who was so afraid of you that she asked us not to tell people what you were doing.

You are gone, and she is still standing.

On August 3rd, when that woman wins the Democrat nomination that you tried to deny her you will be shown for the pathetic excuse for a man that you are Chris Moreno.

Chris Moreno, your abusive tactics just are not acceptable anymore, even if the Democrat Party tried to cover them up by sending you away.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 815- I am a supporter of Chayanne Cardarella and she has told me that the conversations between her and Moreno have been cordial. So who are you speaking for because it is not her campaign.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Moreno is on the loose. The "crew" is wary of what he will do next. Now he is a businessman with the consulting firm RGC. The game is getting ready to change. Chris Moreno, Chris Benjamin- it is Show Time! Stay tuned.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The only thing that fears Moreno is a buffet. Needs to quit blogging about himself.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Payback is coming3/21/10, 10:31 AM

Chris has a lot of enemies in Eastern Jackson County. Not the least of which is a guy who runs a downtown SCAB print shop and lives in Raytown.

  29. RGC is Trouble3/21/10, 11:52 AM

I have never believed that all this trash talk about Moreno was written by Cardarella supporters.

Sometimes I think a Cardarella person jumps in to say something in response to the noise, but I have always believed this was staged by Chris Benjamin and Chris Moreno just to attract attention.

This mud throwing did not start until Moreno was about to be shown the door by the House Democratic Campaign Committee. The tactic seems to be "make Mareno a martyr" and attract attention for the firm by creating controversy -- no such thing as bad press?

Personally, I do not think that Moreno is smart enough to come up with this kind of tactic but I think Benjamin is. Benjamin learned dirty tricks at the knee of Rod Jetton, or maybe over the knee of the Green Balloons King for that matter.

I've eaten at Los Tules since it was Las Chiquitas and the tacos were 20 cents. They've got to stay! Viva Tules!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess at least now it is well established that Moreno was fired.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm going to speak out on the negative Moreno comments. Anyone that knows the guy knows he isn't the type of guy to blog on here about himself. Like 8:48 I spoke with Cardarella last week about these comments and she confirmed with me that her and Moreno have a good professional realtionship. So let's not invent falsehoods and get back to focusing on a Democratic win in November. Which is what these people posting are supposed to be busy trying to accomplish.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Payback. I'm a member of the RDA and a friend of all of the printers in Raytown, including the "printer" you are referring to. I also voted for Chris Moreno when he ran for office. Both are great people and have always supported one another. I think Moreno is doing great work.

It is definitely an election year. It's no wonder things have gone wrong in Jefferson City. Kansas City is full of democrats that are busy attacking their own instead of working together on fundraising and campaigning.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think it is well established that Chris Moreno was not fired. He's admired and respected by many in the caucus. He's a good dad and made the best decision for his family who just had a new addition. Good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 2:33pm best comment yet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Love los tules

    ReplyDelete
  38. Love los tules. Is it the best Mexican restaurant in town?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I doubt the guy blogs about himself and I agree with 233 that is the best comment yet.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Exactly GKCWPC. Excellent post.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Don't think tules is the best mexican restaurant in town. It might be the cheapest though.

    ReplyDelete
  42. tules isn't authentic but has good food.

    ReplyDelete
  43. GKCWPC (Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus) is a Gender Fascist organization. When you say men are not good enough to earn your endorsement, then you lose every bit as much credibility as any old boys club that will not endorse women.

  44. No argument there
