Thanks to some AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS I've been told that there is growing pressure on the KCPD and Police Chief Corwin to note the increasing homicide epidemic in Kansas City's African-American Community. This is a subject that fans of this blog have been following for quite some time.
Thankfully, right now Kansas City murder is down and there's a respectable clearance rate from the KCPD. However . . .

"With last night's violence we are now at 15 dead black people in KCMO for 2010--in 2007 we did not hit this figure until April 30."If this carnage is going to stop and if we can ensure that so many parts of the Eastside don't become a killing field during the warmer weather than these stats need to be addressed directly and EVERYONE in this town needs to take these numbers to heart.
Time and time again we've seen that violence and crime never completely stay in one part of Kansas City and so many murders in one segment of this community put us all at risk. Today this town came together rather peacefully in order to party, I can only hope (but know it won't happen) that we could address the problem of murders in the African-American community with the same enthusiasm.

ReplyDeleteI think we need to put pressure on the families and community leaders to stop the violence and such. KCPD can only do so much, and as we all know with the high general crime rate and shortage of officers, they end up playing on the defense as much as we want them on the offense. thats just the nature of the beast. By putting pressure on the families and neighborhoods to clean up, we can effectively reduce problems before they start.

ReplyDeleteIf we are asking the police to stop the killings, then we are coming into the game way too late. This starts at home, with family, friends and peers. It makes no sense at all to blame the KCPD for the amount of homicides, but I guess those who haven't done their job and been a good role model need to blame someone.

Well don't expect much from KCPD they will just make up excuses for the increase in crime. They'll whine they need more money, or overtime.
ReplyDeleteBut the real key is what happen in the Precious Doe Case: the police say they don't get any help from the community but Thurman McIntosh called the police how many times and he was still ignored !

The KCPD can stop the violence it they want too. Weak leadership in City Hall. And if you child is out at 1:00 a.m and is under 18 s/he's probably going to find trouble or trouble will find him/her.
