Whenever I read about the lingering impact of The Great Recession on this cowtown, I think back to the beginning of 2008 when The Star predicted economic resiliency instead of recession.
Years later . . . Life in Kansas City has been dramatically impacted by Global Economic decline:
That represented a year-to-year payroll decline of 3.4 percent.
Maybe the city could spent some capitol improvement monies. At least a few people i know would be working.Isnt that how Pendergast jump started the city in the late 30s.
ReplyDeleteThat 9.1 number is probably way too LOW. If you could get HONEST numbers, I bet it's an unemployment rate of 20% or higher. The politicians are cooking the books on these numbers, must be an election coming.
ReplyDeleteIn November 2006, when Claire McCaskil was elected senator, unemployment was 4.8%.

Don't thank any current politicians for jobless numbers. Thank CEO's for selling our jobs to poor foreign countries who's people don't have the tax/insurance burdens we do.
ReplyDeleteJoblessness will be around for a long time until (a) we quit paying the DOD to be the worlds's policeman, (b) cut the impossible cost of health care, (c) regulate banks, investment companies, and businesses allowed to gouge people to line their pockets.
Let big business whine about paying more than 'their share' for health insurance. The wealthy brought this on themselves.
It is about time the DOD quits being the world's policeman. And we need to bring our troops home. How many are in Europe? Two wars that meander along without end, thank you "w". The greedy slicksters on Wall Street pushed the economy to ruin, while, once again thank you "w" the regulators looked the other way. It was/is the politicians that have created this mess. Who do you think passed NAFTA. if it wasn't politicians? Obama and Claire inherited this mess, unfortunately, they're in WAY OVER THEIR HEADS.
ReplyDeleteI learned the pain of losing a job on Dec. 21st of 2009 and I had watched Deffenbaugh cut over 1200 jobs in the year before I was fired. I also listen to the talkingheads say that unemployment benefits are the "new welfare", but I notice all of the people that are talking crap are also people that still have jobs.
