The slaughter that's mainly focused on the East Side of town continues despite the fact that media attention and spotlight regarding the subject of crime has been mainly focused on Waldo this year.
A KICKASS TKC TIPSTER writes in . . .
"The KCPD has just posted its latest homicide figures. Bad news: We are above rates for 2007. Possibly ominous news: All nine murders so far are Black."Real Talk:
IF KANSAS CITY EXPECTS TO MAKE ANY PROGRESS REGARDING THE HORRIFIC MURDER RATE IN THIS TOWN WE MUST ADDRESS THE PROBLEM DIRECTLY RATHER THAN TACITLY DISCOUNTING THE VALUE OF THE LIVES OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES!!!
The "math" is simple enough to figure out. Media spins into action when tragedy strikes the white community but coverage is tepid at best when it comes to Eastside murders. Like it or not, the disparity is part of the problem that keeps the local murder rate so unforgivably high in this small Midwestern town.
And what does the KC black leadership have to say about this?
ReplyDelete"Give me free money and I will do something."
No wonder the Eastside is burning.
You know, if anyone is discounting African-American lives, it is not the city, not the media, and not the lily-white suburbs.
ReplyDeleteAny initiative to make any difference needs to come from the community itself.
Tony is quick to point out the way MWWS is amplified by the media (true), but is way too quick too blame those who have no role in the murders themselves.
It is time for people to step up and stop blaming others.
It is not "disparity" that keeps the Eastside murder rate at an unacceptable level; it is the fact that Eastsiders carry guns, and knives, and kill each other at unacceptable rates.
I think you should have labeled the post TKC Brainstorm.
ReplyDeleteSince you rag on this city and its residents at any given opportunity, what's this "we" shit all of a sudden?
ReplyDeleteNow if we had a police department that could actually solve Homicide cases.
ReplyDeleteNews is when man bites dog, not when dog bites man.
ReplyDeleteUntil KC's African American Community rids itself of the likes of Alvin Brooks, Craig Bland, Anita Russell, Gwen Grant, Alonzo Washington, Clinton Adams, Ron Hunt, Wallace Hartsfield, Nelson Fuzzy Thompson, Mark Tolbert, Vernon E. Howard, James Tindall, Melba Curls, Shalon KiKi Curls, Sharon Sanders Brooks, Linwood Tauheed, Ajamu Webster and Marilyn Simmons, things will never get better and will only get worse. A community can only thrive on the strength of its leaders. And as long as weak leaders are in power, community can never thrive. I'm White and have lived in the city for 40 years and have seen how long KC's African American community has severely lacked strong leadership. They have no hope or any leaders to give them hope. It's a shame.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately what 12:00 says is true. The lack of leadership inthe black community is devastating, literally and figuratively.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone who has the ability and strength to change things will come and help?
If the murder rate in the Black community is directly tied to the education level then what do you think will happen when the school district closes 30 schools in the black community?
ReplyDeleteHow is this a TKC Exclusive? This is just par for the course.
ReplyDeleteSurely this isn't a surprise, is it?
ReplyDeleteI wonder which Political Party has run this town for 30+ years?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if - or how much - the "don't snitch" campaign supported by many (not all) in various communities, on T-shirts and more, contributes to this. I'm not trying to be snippy, but it seems like having such a campaign active in a community would encourage the people committing crimes. I don't know exactly which neighborhoods this applies to, but that would be an interesting study.
ReplyDeleteWe'll start caring about the murder rate in the hood when the residents in the hood start caring.
ReplyDeleteLet's make a deal. If Alonzo and Al Brooks go into the hood and make a case to the residents to give the cops tips and ID's that help clear 5 murders from the last 5 years then all the white folks in town will march down Prospect in freezing weather to support their new initiative to start snitching.
Call it a white good faith program.
Until they can get this done we'll sit back in our cribs and post more comments about why are we supposed to care when they don't care. It's not our hood.
The white folks in town would also like to see an end of Alonzo's blame game. Blaming white folks for not caring about murders we ddn't commit in a neighborhood that we don't live in, except for that white guy who wears a kilt every day and lives over on 49th and Woodland.
It's really hard for anyone to get excited over black criminals killing each other.
Booomp, Booomp, Booomp, another one bites the dust.
Is a person really name Shalon Kiki Curls??
ReplyDeleteThat's the greatest thing I've heard all day.
The imagination runs wild at the thought of what they might look like.
We need a new Police Chief in kansas city.
ReplyDeleteWe need new black people in K.C.
ReplyDeleteOnes that won't commit crimes and will help the PoPo's get criminals arrested.
Some of those families in the hood have murderers and criminals in their families that go back 5 or 6 generations in K.C.
A white guy in a kilt lives at 49th and Woodland? I've wondered were Rowdy Roddy Piper was up to these days?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure disparate media coverage explains, even in part, the higher murder rate in the black community. It is a form of unintentional racism I think, but I dont see it as explanatory.
ReplyDeleteThe media covers items that are deemed newsworthy due to:
ReplyDelete1) High profile person or thing
2) Rarity of occurrance
3) Sympathetic victim or interviewee
4) What will sell advertising (should be listed as #1
Unfortunately, most of the KCMO murders do not fit into any of those categories. The real victory, to be crass, will occur when the incidents are so rare as to warrant coverage.
The Star won't cover the crisis, the root causes of the crisis and won't provide interviews with people who have real solutions and are taking real efforts to eliminate the crisis and the root cause of the crisis. Instead, they will cover barbecues, balloon flying and hypocrite-led marches and prayer vigils that serve no purpose but to provide press covereage and a soapbox to bootleg Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons with little or no power or influence in the communities they claim to care for, serve and represent.
ReplyDeleteKansas City is operating under a vicious cycle of crime and violence among its residents, corruption and incompetience among its politicians and ineffectiveness and shameless self-promoting and self-interested community activists and clergy members.
Not to mention the economy is continuing to spiral into a bottomless pit and the city is so divided by race and class that there has been no real progress since Cleaver left the mayor's office.
Alonzo is a self promoting egotistical tool bag. He rips the press because they will not give him free advertising for his comic books through interviews.
ReplyDeleteHe claims he's not racist yet he constantly makes comments like "the white women were hanging all over me..." Why would it matter what race they are if you aren't racist Alonzotool?
He claims to have forwarded tips to the police that have solved crimes yet, he can't prove these claims. Alonzotool? PROVE that you have provided tips that have solved crimes. You can flap your gums and type all you want but, until you can prove all of your claims, you'll remain a racist, self serving toolbag.
Alonzo and all these other "Community Activists" statements are a nice reality check for everyone who's not them.
ReplyDeleteThey spend more time talking about increasing their media coverage and their white blame game than they talk about finding solutions to the problems they say they really care about.
They're just more losers in a long line of chumps who can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk.
I pity those fools...
Minneapolis going through the same thing ! I checked out the homes of land lords (slum loards) who own drug houses. All living large in the burbs of minneapolis. Somh how they are connected. Paying off polititions not to mess with them while they reep the benefits.
