Now that their billboards are coming down around this cowtown and their content has failed to make much of a splash . . . The Kansas City Free Press remains a bastion of SUPREMACY on the local Internets. Or at least they don't really care much about diversity when it comes to their contributors.

The fact is, to accurately represent any aspect of Kansas City there must be an effort to include the perspective of people of color. So far, The KC Free Press has failed completely on this front and this is a part of their overall disappointing content. I have a prediction: If they make an effort to become more diverse, their content and readership will improve . . . As of now, their ALL WHITE local newsy efforts have failed.

ReplyDeleteIt's telling that Tony would re-post this "white supremacy" post instead of linking KC Free Press's current lead story, an excellent piece* about Heart to Heart, the organization which has been aiding Haiti for 10 years, thanks in no small part to the volunteer support they've received from the Hispanic community.

ReplyDeleteWhat happened to judging someone by the content of their character? (Or by judging a news site by the character of their content, for that matter...). I guess TKC is an equal opportunity hater.
I'd also like to see more diversity in the line-up of a new KC news source (especially given how white Ink's staff page is and they've already been out for 2 years)
But I'm guessing TKC isn't bothering to look at (or is refusing to link to) the full staff list on KC Free Press or the content itself.
They actually seem to care about what's going on in different communities in Kansas City and even if they are not super-diverse yet I take this as an encouraging sign.
