Sometimes I realize why this blog is so popular and it's mainly due to one fact: With almost every controversial issue involving different races or cultures, the commentary coming from the vast majority of Kansas City is almost willfully ignorant, lame and misinformed.
In Kansas City (and other places) the talk related to the Fort Hood Shootings has taken a ridiculous turn toward a discussion of the merits of Islam. Literally, dimwits who pursue this line of reasoning are actually being lead down a rabbit hole of silly qualifications and generalizations by the crazy person who did the shooting.
An American, shooting other Americans on an U.S. Military base has nothing to Islam or Muslims and the mere fact that this needs to be clarified speaks to the overall racism, prejudice, hatred and ignorance prevalent in Kansas City and so many other parts of the nation.
This story is really about increasing pressure, suicide and hardships of American soldiers. The attempt to obfuscate the story and place blame on a single religion seems almost like a concentrated effort to relieve responsibility for the the obvious stress being placed on the U.S. military.
Finally, the fact that anyone feels like they have to justify a religion or culture in light of this story is also a symptom of SUPREMACY that's rampant in the metro.
Remember: White people don't apologize for the crimes of other white people so there's no reason anyone else should feel compelled to share guilt for the solitary actions of some one else breaking the law.
If reactionaries and racist mostly white people of the dominant Christian faith in this country feel compelled to seek an apology or justification for the belief systems of Islam then, in turn, they should also apologize and lament the misdeeds of every member of their faith or demographic group . . . Starting with the gully stat in a recent Psychology today article which reports that "statistically, more than 80% serial killers are white males."

You're normally right on with your commentary, let me present why I think you are wrong. First, this guy who shot everyone hadn't been to the war. Second, he, and this is important, he yelled an Islamic term as he began shooting which had some meaning of "God is great" or something to that affect. Unfortunately for the followers of Islam the rogue followers who insist on causing harm to others seem to make this statement. Also unfortunate for the Islam followers is the Hollywood portrayal of the terrorists who they show yelling that phrase.
ReplyDeleteThird, his family members, friends and co-workers have said he has become more and more confrontational as far as his thoughts on the war and it religious overtones.
Fourth and finally, it is well documented with video of him at meetings with the military (incl. large groups) of him becoming confrontational about the war and Islam followers.
All in all, looks like he has brought some disrepute to the religion.

ReplyDeleteWe are absolutely capable of deporting foreign nationals of a profiled racial makeup, and pack up US citizens under a martial law and send them to Arizona, as we did in the 40s with the Japanese Americans.
We're not going to let the country go down on technicalities. Not gonna happen. Muslims will be the losers until they get control of their people.
