Omertà sounds cool but doesn't look good on a t-shirt. Kansas City's code of silence continues:
Two more area men were ordered into custody Wednesday for refusing to testify in front of a federal grand jury in Kansas City.I'm surprised how many people agree with me that this move by a few local Italians is almost completely identical to stop snitchin nonsense. Sadly, KC Italian dudes get TV News Airtime whereas the small cadre of Black guys spouting this stuff can do it only via the local rap circuit. It doesn't matter . . . Most people can make the connection and it's one of the very few times TKC readers have impressed me.
At least four others previously have been jailed as part of the grand jury probe into alleged online gambling. None has been charged with a crime as part of the investigation.
There is a big difference between keeping quiet about gambling vs murder.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how the government doesn't want you doing drugs or gambling. Wait, that's not true. They want you to use all those drugs advertised on tv and spend your money on the lotteries.
Interesting how The Star doesn't say WHAT the grand jury is investigating, eh?
I disagree 6:41 especially if this gambling thing really is mob related since ultimately the drug money the street thugs kill over ultimately gets laundered in operations like this. These guys are just a more polished version of the no snitch rule of the streets, actually they inspire it. The street thugs are just too stupid to know they have more to lose by adhering to it. However on the other hand the innocent people who snitch on the street thugs live a lot closer to them and are in more immediate danger if they snitch so the beat goes on.
ReplyDeleteMINGA!!!!
ReplyDeleteBasta, Tony. Omerta goes back a long way with us, and it's against our nature to break it. It's cultural - we don't trust the authorities, and for very good reasons. Kansas city Italians have rarely broken it, compared to our compades in other cities.
ReplyDelete9:54, if these were mob guys, I would agree. But a bunch of thrice-removed mob relatives who set up a little sports book and played bookie is what we are looking at in this case.
ReplyDeleteThe theft from the public by both political parties is a much bigger threat to the general public but the FIBbers ain't gonna bite the hand that feeds them.
does anyone know the names of these guys who won't talk?
ReplyDeletelol
