Kansas City Italian-Americans Engage in Controversial Stop Snitching Campaign!!!

Here's yet another sign that Kansas City is one of the most hypocritical towns in the nation . . .

WHEN PEOPLE OF COLOR ENGAGE IN A STOP SNITCHIN' CAMPAIGN THEY ARE BLASTED IN THE MEDIA BUT JIMMY CASCONE GETS A SWEET SIT DOWN INTERVIEW TO EXPLAIN THE MERITS OF HIS STOP SNITCHIN' RHETORIC!!!

It's all the same thing . . . Stop Snitchin' or Omerta . . . Sadly, the same nonsense gets called a different name when white people do it.

See if this money line in the recent KMBC interview cites any kind of constitutional precedent when it comes to keeping quiet:
Jimmy Cascone, who is Tom's uncle, said, "We're talking about ordering these people before a grand jury to talk about people they know. And if they don't then they're putting them in handcuffs and sending them to a maximum security prison."
Nope . . . This brilliantly reported story is about staying quiet to get over and it's all the same if there is awesome Italian food being served or if it's on Prospect . . . Unfortunately, it gets played differently in the understanding of the public and in the media.

Nevertheless, this story is awesome on many fronts but especially because it demonstrates that STOP SNITCHIN EFFORTS ARE A WAY OF LIFE IN EVERY COMMUNITY IN KANSAS CITY!!!

There was a stupid myth going around that only people of color believed in the Stop Snitchin' ethos but this story obviously confirms that the code of silence exists in every Kansas City community from well-connected Italians, to reporters protecting sources . . . To the Eastside . . . Personally, I don't like talking to anybody so this is kind of welcomed news to me and maybe a bit of an excuse to drop the charade that failing to cooperate with authorities belongs to any single demographic.

  3. This isn't about race, it's about prominence, which is one of the major factors of newsworthiness. Cascone is a very big name in KC. No one knows or cares about all those nameless other thugs, unless of course they owned a popular and long-standing restaurant and maybe had historic organized crime ties. Stop playing the race card, Tony. This story got reported because of the big names involved. Same reason that Lindsay Lohan getting a slurpee is on TMZ but no one cares when I get some of that tasty coldness.

  4. Here's an issue you don't address:

How can a person (or community) simultaneously support a "stop snitching" compaign AND complain about increased or unsolved crime?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well maybe people don't and sometimes will probably never understand what Loyalty to family and friends means. This is what these three men were raised to believe in and even other ethnicity's not races were brought up to believe to. Honor, Loyalty, and Family is a major moral upbringing in the Italian American community and these men are being locked up and punished for their freedom of speech right which is the right to plead the 5th and this is ridiculous and completely uncalled for. No matter what ethnicity or race you should still be able to practice the rights we as americans are given and unfortunatly these men are not being given that right. So for the people that are saying the "Stop Snitching" campaign is rediculous then maybe they should just keep there opinions to themselves and think about if any of these men were their son's, brothers, or family memeber and think about what they would be feeling about this matter. People always seem to have an opinion until something like this happens in their lives.

  6. Italian = white? since when?

  7. Nobody likes a snitch knows no color barrier. Face it TKC is right about this. Italians don't snitch, whether its Loyalty or Fear, Brother don't do it for the same reasons, and probably Beaners too.

If given immunity from prosecution, in front of a grand jury--though you should tell everything all the way back to shoplifting a snickers bar the Boodega in the 5th grade. Damn sum people don't know a get-out-of-jail-free card when they see it.

  8. There's interesting history here. According to the KC Star, about 10-15 years ago, a BASTA campaign was run and orgnized from a deli in downtown KCMO. Complete with bumper stickers, TV coverage, and more. Unfortunately, bugs/litening devices had been placed the deli because it was owned by a known organized crime family. Criminals were known to conduct meetings there after hours, thus court approval for the bugs. Several arrests resulted, and some of those people are still in jail. This sort of ended the "we are just innocent bystanders" party. If you didn't know better, you'd swear that BASTA meant "STOP ORGANIZED CRIME NOW!"

  9. Maybe the KC Organized Crime never left it just got quiet...

  10. A get out of jail fee card? Really? No they recognize it. They just have been brought up with certain morals and arent going to sell anyone out in order to "get out of jail free"! My brother is one of these guys and Im proud of him!!!

  11. 12:14 If you don't knowz nuttin whatz the harm??

  12. Exactly last time I checked a get outta jail free card meant total embarrassment for your family and everyone in town hating you. This is coming from someone that is Italian and growing up in Northeast and thinking that I am very proud of one of these men that has been like a little brother to me his entire life and all the people judging him need to shut their mouths considering that you obviously are ignorant and know nothing about this matter or what honor and loyalty mean.

  13. Ok so just another ignorant comment about the "BASTA" it means enough. They used those young men just like they are now and its not right. Really enough with the Italian bashing bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I believe this is about criminal activity. Who cares who is doing it. Criminal is criminal. If you won't help lock up the criminals than you deserve what you get.

Screw these guys, lock them up.

  15. Don't be stupid, at least they know the difference between civilians, and combatants.!

  16. stop snitchin' cocksuckas are fine with me. just don't expect the cops to show up to your next murder scene. kill all of your own people that you want and clean the mutha fuckas up Tony Soprano style so they aren't left by the side of the road. then nobody will ask anyone to snitch and you can just cannibalize your culture and rap about it. just don't come over to my neighborhood.

Why should it be these guys responsibility to "help lock up the criminals"? Isnt that what our government gets paid so highly for? Maybe they should do their own fucking job and get the evidence they need on their own! But thats right, they have no case, they are just fishing because they want so badly to incriminate the Italians at least once every ten years, if they had any hard evidence they wouldve got the people they were going after already and not had to have put these men in jail for doing nothing! Maybe they know something, maybe they dont, but they sure arent being charged with a crime! All the government is doing is wasting all of our tax dollars putting people in jail who did nothing wrong. Dont they always talk about overcrowding in prisons?? Hmmmm....wonder why?? Fuckin jackoffs. And anyone who says that this is right is just plain fuckin stupid!

  18. "hy should it be these guys responsibility to "help lock up the criminals"? Isnt that what our government gets paid so highly for?"

That's what is going on. You don't get to choose to participate in a Grand Jury. It's a crime not to. And apparently some people are finding out the hard way. No sympathy here. Clue train is leaving the station. You're not onboard.

Tony, I have to agree with you on this. If they were black, the insults would be pouring on thick.

This crybaby "I'm so discriminated against because I'm Italian" is laughable. If you actually believe that, join the special olympics and ride the short bus to work.

  19. An addendum to my comment above -- the 11:55 one. Don't make this into some Italian vs whoever thing. It has nothing to do with that. You only play into the stereotypes and give idiots fuel fan the flames of prejudice. It's not a racial thing. That's what pisses me off the most.

    ReplyDelete
  20. well it seems that these men are having to serve time without ever being charged with anything at all. The feds should be able to get there own info and not use others for their job and it is really stupid that they can't do this by themselves. Once again they only have done this to Italians and no other ethnicity in the past. The have done it before and sure as hell don't give a shit now. It is really funny that they are passing a bill in september for making internet gambling legal and they are trying to prosecute on this matter now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Everyone has a right to plead the 5th and these men are serving because they were not given this right. It's bullshit and for those of you who believe they should snitch need to keep you opinions to yourself. This is considering that they are not even considered criminals in the governments eyes since they have nothing to charge these men with.

    ReplyDelete
  22. These 3 guys are all good people. They do not deserve to be going through this. This isn't a murder case, nobody is being cheated out of money except for the government who cheats all of us out of our money every single day of our life. Enough is Enough. If you want to throw everyone in jail who has bet on a game and doesn't want to tell the government who they paid almost nobody would be left in America. You could almost throw the whole country in jail. This is a disgusting case driven by bad human beings (Government) and I don't know how they sleep at night.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with the above comment. I don't know these 3 men, but this case is a joke. I am not Italian and I don't have one friend who doesn't bet on games during certain seasons. You might as well arrest the United States of America. How can you throw someone in jail for refusing to testify about something so ignorant and meaningless in the big picture. This makes me mad as a tax payer, a gambler, a human, and a citizen of the USA. As for the people you are after? Slap a fine on them and move on. This is a joke and I wish more people would speak out. This needs to stop!
