Where is Kansas City on Infrastructure?

Ancillary Adams doesn't see much progress . . . He might just want to wait until election time when candidates will earn double bonus points for merely mentioning the word without much follow-up or action.

However . . . For those who are still keeping score:

  • Kansas City Sewers still suck and there is a lot of poopy overflow to go round . . . With any serious improvement still far, far away.

  • There are just as many potholes as ever.

  • Still plenty of steel plates to go around because NOBODY tells the Water Department what to do . . . Especially not a Mayor with no political capital.

Again . . . Just for those who are keeping score and not interested in rosy picture by politicos or the paper-of-record looking to push a slate of candidates.

    1. But wait - we have cool sports stadiums for losers, a train station but no trains, a war memorial that loses millions and a hip new downtown entertainment district that will probably last another year or two. Who cares about streets, bridges and sewers? The real estate crowd need to unload some more downtown lofts before KC files bankruptcy.

    2. They're repairing the ARMCO bridge, and they've closed both entrances to I-35 from Independence Avenue for bridge construction, they're getting ready to install a round-about at Benton & St. John, and I hear they're going to attempt to make Prospect & Independence Avenue resemble 18th & Baltimore.

So I see a lot happening in Northeast, but they could always do more.

I do have an issue with the Town Pavilion though... they cut down the trees, pulled out the parking meters, and ripped up the sidewalk but it wasn't even in disrepair... then they never put back the parking meters, so the city is losing the revenue from tickets and parking, and they planted new trees, which they'll probably cut down in another five years.

    4. Have you been on SW Trafficway since the weekend? Apparently a water main blew at 39th Terrace, between 39th and Westport Road.

Ya' think it would be a quickly-fixed, rush job?

      Oh, hell no.

Yesterday evening, I'm driving home and they have plates over it (of course), barricades, warning cones and a big electrical sign pointing to get over but NOT ONE PERSON REPAIRING THIS THING. And at rush hour, going back home, cars are backed up blocks.

Let's see how long it takes the Funkster, City Hall and the Water and Street Departments to get this glaring one fixed.

      Don't hold yer breath.

      Good points.

I also like to point out that the downtown entertainment district is so middle- and upper-class brats from the 'burbs can come in and get drunk--even poolside, now--and that we're also planning on throwing 20.5 MILLION DOLLARS we don't have at a retail/commercial project the city DOESN'T NEED from a budget THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE MONEY. (see www.moravings.blogspot.com today).

      Crazy.
