I know everyone is supposed to be supportive of any student in the Kansas City, Missouri School District who isn't armed or in the middle of a felony . . . But this town has really reached bottom when slam poets are the only bright spot available in local schools worthy of an alt rag cover story . . . Inspired by the the only other Black people on HBO besides Chris Rock I was hoping this slam poetry phenomenon was over 5 years ago. Alas, everything makes it to the Midwest late . . . And The Pitch is there to report on yet another way to alleviate white guilt.

The pitch is only in love with the fringes of black culture, the low gutteral parts, nothing mainstream. The whole thing makes them feel hip, edgy and funky.
