DAMN!!! FUNKHOUSER OPPOSITION CLAIM ENOUGH SIGNATURES FOR RECALL!!!

Looks like this might be an interesting Summer after all . . .

A Press Release just came down the wire from the Recall Funkhouser Crew and it says they've got the signatures required.

Committee to Recall Mark Funkhouser To Deliver 12,000 to 14,000 Additional Signatures to City Clerk

The Committee to Recall Mark Funkhouser announced this evening that it will deliver Recall Petitions containing between 12,000 and 14,000 additional signatures to the City Clerk on Monday afternoon, May 25th, at 3:00 p.m. Members of the Committee will be available to speak to the Media at the South entrance of City Hall at 2:30 p.m.
Harris Wilder, spokesman for the pro-Recall group said, “It hasn’t been easy, but the Committee now projects that it will have collected enough signatures by Monday afternoon to recall Mayor Funkhouser.”

“We expect that Monday will mark a truly historic day for Kansas City. By accomplishing this daunting task, we will have reaffirmed the power of ordinary citizens to effect their government. This group’s achievement is unprecedented and will have a positive effect on the City for years to come. We thank the hundreds of selfless and dedicated volunteers who worked on this campaign to improve our City’s government.”
No matter what this grass roots group has had a HUGE impact on local government and shown us all that incompetent, stubborn politicians like Funkhouser can't simply ignore their constituents and hope that apathy prevails.

I guess it makes sense that all of this stuff is historic given that FUNKHOUSER IS THE WORST MAYOR IN KANSAS CITY'S MODERN HISTORY!!!

And now . . . It seems there's a bit of hope that the dude will become part of Kansas City History rather a Co-Mayor this town has to endure.

UPDATE . . . Thanks for the link sent from AWESOME TKC readers . . .

THE NEW YORK TIMES JUST PUBLISHED THEIR ARTICLE REGARDING MAYOR FUNKY'S FOIBLES!!!

"This is a lot harder than I thought," he said.

Of note . . . The NY Times piece says Funkhouser now identifies as "An Independent" which is a significant change from his previous claims to be a liberal Democrat.

Gloria Squitiro's stupidity continues . . . Regarding the Volunteer Ordinance she says: “The establishment saw a formidable team,” Ms. Squitiro said, “and they wanted to break it up.”

Which is kind of odd because it was mainly a reaction to some white lady spewing racial slurs everywhere.

Confirmation of TKC reports regarding her continued influence: "She still works 50 hours a week for him, she says, just not at City Hall."

Even funnier . . . He's citing "Bike-Friendly" B.S. as one of his accomplishments which served only to satisfy a few rich hobbyists and is going to make development in this town even more expensive.

Mayor Funky says he has "rhino thick" skin from being ridiculed a lot . . . Which is funny because he seems like a big crybaby to me. He promises to "fight back" but for most people in this town it's much to late to reclaim any of the respect he has lost.

I'm gonna miss him.

To wit, Tonight's TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST (!!!) is dedicated to numbers which is what I'm sure we'll all be fighting about next week.

As always, thank you for reading this week and have a safe and fun weekend.

  2. "City Hall is open Monday???"

I believe it is open just for the turning in of the petition signatures, as Monday is the deadline.

  3. We can only hope.

How appropriate the deadline for removing Funkhouser from office is "Memorial Day Weekend." Thanks for the memories. No thanks.

  4. Thank you lord. Amen

  5. Hard luck for Funkhouser. His wife was thrown out of City Hall and now he will be too.

  6. be careful what you wish for...imagine for a minute who the next mayor could be...yes, it's just as scary!

  7. Any other will be better than that clown funkhouser. He has been a total failure

I think the City kept the office where the recall petition needs to be filed open specifically to receive the signatures.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I sure hope they do have enough valid signatures--but let's be careful who we elect. It has to be someone with a proven record of supporting the city and being a "cheerleader"--Mike Burke gets my vote.

  10. It's time for the Funks to go.

    ReplyDelete
  11. How many three-time signers does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  12. inafunkaboutthefunk5/23/09, 8:25 PM

It is beyond an possibility of doubt that the appropriate City Department will count and certify only proper ballots. If the actual certified count is close we can all look forward to the Funk suing the City for not properly counting and certifying the ballots. That would be a hoot coming from the clown who said he had no fear of being recalled.

  13. Funk is gone. Forget him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 5k of those are invalid, guaranteed.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Funk believe that the people pushing for his recall are geeks and losers. He had Gloria will great the newsmedia if things work out as expected.

    The committee now projects ,,,,

  21. I'm cautiously optimistic ... but when the recall group announces it "projects" having 12,000 to 14,000 more signtures I have to confess a certain queasiness.

Signatures don't count unless they are from registered voters and "projected" signatures don't count at all.

I hope we are able to call an end to our long civic nightmare, but I won't start celebrating until the signatures are ruled valid.

Gotta love the New York Times story though. Who'd have thought that Gloria's IQ was 2 points higher than Funk's? Of course it didn't surprise me that she thinks people around her are eavesdropping on her conversations. Seems our first couple continues to swim against the tide of mental health.

  24. Got up on wrong side of the bed Kendrick the soon to be unemployed

  25. That NYT article is very poorly done....a lazy journalist with no ability to ask the right questions of the right people. What a disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hopefully 1 down - 1 to go
Is there a petition process to get rid of Wayne Cauthen? Council doesn't have the guts/courage to do so perhaps there's a citizen initiative process to do so. He's going to bankrupt this City and City Hall. He's layed off so many of the folks that had the institutional history so necessary; he's laid off the workers and the honest folks leaving incompetent, dishonest or unethical people in critical positions. They know they couldn't find a job pushing picture buttons in McDonalds but if loyal to Cauthen they make $100,000 plus. No value for our money there.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Quit whining about who got fired dumbass. Finally after years of wasting payroll on your do nothing, know nothing ass, time to get a real job. Oh yeah, a job with good health care bennies and maybe a 401k. It should have happened YEARS ago, long before Cauthen hit town. Stop blaming Wayne and look in the mirror. You'll find all the blame you need.

  28. Funkhouser should admit that he has Asperger's Syndrome and that's why he needs his wife. His disability gets in the way of his ability to run government. And he tells the New York Times "he didn't know it would be so difficult?" What the hell did he think when he ran for mayor?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jeff Roe did a great job getting this story placed. Also, providing Republican leader Warren Erdman for comment was brilliant.

We could have cool competent management applied to City Hall if KC would just elect Republicans.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Funkhouser is incompetent and has been for years. To claim he knew anything about auditing is a fraud. He was always expressing his personal opinion as a shin kicker, born from his and his wife's resentment of anyone else who had ever accomplished anything. He should have been fired as City Auditor long ago and we could have avoided this fiasco that will result in our City falling further behind our metropolitan and regional competitors.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I believe this shit when I see it. Until then, it's not happening. Consider the source -- Relentless anti-Funk cheerleader.

So you're anti-Funk? Then what? You are only defined by what you are not? Sounds like a pretty weak set of beliefs.

    How about something assertive?

    ReplyDelete
  32. If Funk didn't know it would be so difficult, he must have had his eyes closed for the previous years he spent in City Hall. And he didn't need Gloria by his side inthe auditor's office--so what changed?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Asperger's Syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome

    ReplyDelete
  34. Funk does not have asperger. He is Satan and Gloria is his secretary. They are Satan and Satans secretary The end

    ReplyDelete
  35. Beth for Mayor!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey Tony, You big fag, why don't you attend the petition turn in at the clerks office? You could actually Cover an event. Think the buses are running tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  37. He doesn't have Asperger's Syndrome. Asshole's Syndrome, perhaps, but not Aspergers

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sorry Funk. So long.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think Gloria is all over these comments.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Funk's world is crashing down around him

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well so how many for Sly and how many for Slimy?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Does this mean we are no longer Funky Town we are no longer a cowtown since the cow man will be leaving? Does that mean that we are finally a FIRST CLASS CITY with VITALITY?

Come on White Rail lets all ride the train.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hall that bastard out.
