ReplyDeleteThere are only too many cages because there are too many criminals. But the cages need to be in the middle of a desert where the occupants can be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteA for-profit criminal justice system has no interest in reducing the crime rate. Just the opposite. For-profit lock-up outfits would be working against the interest of their stockholders by taking steps to reduce recidivism. Their business model involves squeezing every dollar they can out of taxpayers, while providing as few services to their inmates as possible to maximize profits (like drug treatment, job training, and medical care).
