The Death of Local Literacy!!! Libraries across the Kansas City metro area give up on books in order to attract teens!!!

Recently, there has been even more evidence that new media literacy is probably more important than voracious reading (or even cracking a book). Here are two local headlines that prove my point:

"The Kansas City Public Libraries have created teen spaces at all of its locations with video games, podcasts, YouTube workshops and movie nights."

"KCK library's Wii systems foster fitness"

And while it's encouraging that local libraries are being creative in attracting newer, younger patrons . . . The lack of interest in reading anything substantial by younger people tells me that short posts are the way to go, with lots of photos and maybe all of us should look at video blogging a lot more seriously.

  2. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that this is what the Chinese teens are doing. We're keeping up with those bowl-haircutted moonfaces you betcha.
Cripes, those guys are gonna steal our rice bowls right out from under us in the coming decades.

  3. Libraries should liberate us from tyranny. Let's all get together and hip hop out of bad economic times.
