One more ethics violation for Mayor Funky?!?!?!? Kansas City's Mayor using taxpayer resources to push light rail!!!
By now everybody knows that Mayor Funky is facing yet another serious question about his ethics . . . Let's not forget that Mayor Funky has already been fined by the Missouri Ethics Commission. So much for his claims that he is a politician who governs on his principle.
Officials are allowed to endorse and campaign for a ballot measure. But an anti-light rail advocate noted that, under state law, they are not allowed to use city staff, emails, phones, the city's cable TV program or other resources to advocate for a particular cause . . . Funkhouser appeared in his office, in a city-produced video on the city Web site, to clearly advocate for the light rail proposal . . . Also cited examples of Miller, a full-time city employee, distributing light rail press releases on official city letterhead from his City Hall email, and appearing on city time at press conferences. Now, we all know Mayor Funky's last remaining acolytes are going to lie for him.
WORD IS THAT PR FLAK JOE MILLER AND CHIEF OF STAFF KENDRICK BLACKWOOD ARE SAYING THEY WERE ON THEIR LUNCH BREAK WHEN THEY DID THEIR WORK FOR THE LIGHT RAIL INITIATIVE!!!
Not only is that a lame excuse but it's not exactly the "principled" leadership that Mayor Funky has touted throughout the course of his Administration. Unfortunately, this tactic also overlooks the impressive amount of video work and City Hall personnel who have helped Mayor Funky set up his lame press conferences; I doubt very much they're also willing to come up with inventive excuses for the Mayor's benefit. There's also other City resources the Mayor has been photographed using like the podium that belongs to City Hall . . . It's all pretty sordid stuff and looks like Mayor Funky hasn't learned his lesson from his first run in with the Ethics Commission.
Fuck the Funk.
ReplyDeleteVote NO! on light rail.
Send him a message.
WE FUCKING HATE YOU, MAYOR!!
Politicians always use government resources to campaign for both ballot issues and their own reelection. Everything from inserts in water bills to employees campaigning full time. It will never change because those in charge of enforcing laws are also politicians.
ReplyDeleteI agree, anon @ 8:10. (and, actually, I also agree with anon @ 7:48.)
ReplyDeleteRemember: vote early, vote often.
It seems that those who propose rule or they do not get a proposal funded.
ReplyDeleteForget Fuck the FUNK...'
ReplyDeleteIMPEACH THE SOB Cry Baby....

Ethics gone for Funkhouser.
ReplyDeleteA City that works for ordinary folks gone.
What is left of his platform from the election? Nothing. He not only has failed himself, he now is doing the stuff he said was not in the interest of the city.
Inept. Insincer. Now corrupt.
Anonymous at 8:10: The fact that it happens all the time isn't a defense, but it is a good point.
ReplyDeleteI saw an ad at the top of Prime Buzz for "Missouri Voter Resource Center" or something like that. When I clicked through it was effectively an ad for Robin Carnahan - nice way to spend tax money - "educating" people who are otherwise sophisticated enough to be reading Prime Buzz. One example of a politician campaigning on the public dime.
Certain city council and the mayor have been using city employees like campaign staff. Some have even been using city resources, like office space and email, phones ect.
ReplyDeleteThe City Attorney has issued an advisory letter to the council on what can and cannot be done. He has done so as their lawyer. So he can evoke attorney-client priviledge. But the any individual council person can legally release that letter. Sunshine law allows that. So lets see if any respect the public enough to release the advisory letter given them. Now you can see who they really represent. It is you.
Keep those ethics complaints rolling in. Pain is a companion they can learn to respect.
Well I don't see that city attorney letter posted yet. So I assume that the council is not working for the citizens.
ReplyDeleteIf citizens do not demand full disclosure then they will vote out of ignorance. Don't let them do that to you. It is one thing to make a foolish mistake and another to be a fool.
You'll never see the letter because politicians like funkhouser don't like to be questioned.
ReplyDeleteHow is it that the council and mayor unanimously support something 60% of the public disagree with? The reality is the council never represents anyone but those who pay for their election.
ReplyDeleteThere is something really unbalanced and horribly perverted about the mental condition of the Mayor and his family. We should try to help. Pray then tell everyone to suggest that they see some professional head doctor. Even when he is gone (right after this election) he will still need help. Maybe there is a lead water line running into their home. Lead poisoning will provide symptoms of behavior similar to theres.

ReplyDeleteALL politicians are this way. ALL OF THEM.
Anony @ 1:52 - you are correct & until we start watching our politicians a lot more closely they will continue to get away with it.
ReplyDeleteTake down the cameras from the intersections and wire them up in the halls of government.
Another good suggestion from lance weber. As for the camera suggestion, I hope he will accept this amendment: cameras will be place on the 24th floor in the city council office area so as to show the lawyers, lobbyist and would be office seekers as they come to influence. Place a camera in the waiting area on the 29th floor too.
ReplyDeleteThe camera idea lets us play the QuickTrip robber identification game. Play live on the internet.
