Kansas City's Mayor works from home!!!

It's official, Mayor Funky has been so badly marginalized that he's working from home.

The news comes from The Star so I hope you d-bags will believe it this time around. Sadly, the Mayor is retreating to his house while still repeating rhetoric about how he is so available to his constituents and the Council. Here's a bit of his letter from The Star's Prime Buzz Blog:
Funkhouser has been making changes since the volunteer ordinance went into effect last month, including working from home more often.

Date: October 21, 2008

To: City Council

From: Mark Funkhouser

Subject: Mayor's schedule

As I continue to rework how I run my office, I am discontinuing regularly scheduled meetings with Council members who do not chair one of my committees. Making this change affords me with more flexibility to meet on-request with council members and other members of the community.

Since the beginning of my time in office, I have tried to make myself as available to you as possible. You all have my personal cell phone number. And you can always call me and Gloria at the house.
So make that two campaign promises that Mayor Funky has betrayed. Obviously, his relationship with the vast majority of the council is so strained that he isn't even taking regular meetings AND any talk of "transparency" is now a joke since the guy is literally hiding out in his house.

Again, I have to reiterate my concern about the liability that Kansas City faces IF Mayor Funky plans to host City Employees and conduct City business at his residence. I'm not a lawyer but Mayor Funky is already facing a lawsuit because of bad decisions regarding his working environment so his track record on this kind of this is pretty horrible.

  • Is the Mayor's residence properly zoned to host a City Office?

  • Does he have the proper insurance for his residence in order to host press on official City Business as he's already done? It's not that I'm worried about his screwed up finances but any newsie to take a spill could end up suing KC Proper.

  • Is his home wheelchair accessible so that all of Kansas City can have access to the Mayor? Obviously, this isn't a big deal to people who don't rely on wheelchairs but for those that do, the Mayor hanging out in a place that has no access kind sends the wrong signal.

Additionally, I wonder if his neighbors are okay with the new location of the de facto Mayor's office or if his house is even zoned for a home business which is what he's now turned the job of mayor into . . . Clearly, the poor dude is making up his strategy as he goes along and the only thing that's for certain is that Kansas City's Mayor has become so marginalized that he can only cling to any kind of authority under his own roof.

Again, Mayor Funky claims he's not a politician . . . It's now clear that the guy simply isn't a real leader if Kansas City has to look for him hiding at home under his wife's skirt.

    1. So I'll be your friend.

      And I'll be your lover.

Because I know in your heart you agree, it does not have to be one or the other. Oh no.

We could be could be both to each other.

    3. Isn't the Mayor required to show up to the office? How is this going to look when he runs for re-election? I thought the Mayor was going to stand his ground and fight not run away.

    6. Mayor One-And-Done. Funk may be the first incumbent mayor in KC history to not even make it out of the primary.

    7. I wonder how open he's going to be to the public at his house. Maybe we should find out. He's much more accessible than at City Hall. I wonder if he thought about the general public dropping in?

    9. How about Katy Perry's song Hot N Cold as Funky's new theme song?

      ---------

He's not going to run for re-election. He will be lucky to last out his term without either ebing recalled or put into the loony bin.

    11. This raises issue related to public records, advance posting of meetins ect. I await a city that works for ordinary folk. By the way, anyone know the mayors (new city hall) address and phone number?

      ReplyDelete
    12. The Funkhouser's address, per KCMO KIVA records is:
      15 West 57th Terrace.

    13. Boy. Even in the face of the public's outcry AND the city council, he's still damned & determined to get HIS way. When you call for unity - and everyone votes AGAINST you, united? It's time to stop living in that bubble lined with mirrors.

He really should just resign. Or suck it up & go to work without his wife, like 95% of the working universe.

      ReplyDelete
    14. what's his address, tony?

'cause if he lives in MY neighborhood, i'm gonna sic the city on his unzoned-for-this ass.

    19. good riddance. get'em both out of city hall, call the recall and move fukn on.

    21. off color question -

If he's at home, where's the accountability. Sorry for the upcoming mental image. If he and Gloria go for a nooner, does that mean that the tax payers are funding their afternoon delight?

      ReplyDelete
    22. Who should replace Funk?
      Doug Gamble.

    23. I guess he will have to put on clothes during office hours? No more lolling about in the nude for this poor bastard... . trust me, out of squit's mouth pour nasty tidbits of funk-ee's home life. She can not remember what she said and to whom it was said. Can't wait for the sideshow trial.

      ReplyDelete
    24. he never puts clothes on when he is at home and i have seen gloria performing oral sex on him in the yard

      ReplyDelete
    25. Yeah, but Gloria's idea of oral sex is to scream "fuck you!" at Funk. (But some time she cleans it up and only screams 'bless you.")

      ReplyDelete
    26. Dear Funk and Gloria:
"regular folks" have to follow rules at their workplace in order to keep their job.
"regular folks" don't get to simply decide to work from home - even if rules are passed against them.
It is an awesome show of elitism to decide that you are above the rules that everyone else must follow. You both suck.

      Signed,
      a regretful voter

    27. FYI the city attorney's office only advises - Galen nor any of the others can "force" politicians to do anything. I'm sure the mayor has ignored their advice many times.

      ReplyDelete
    28. Our hillbilly mayor is holed up at his house. Maybe he is waiting with the shotgun squit bought right after 9/11, well she purchased that and a box of condoms for Tara. Will the media continue to kowtow to this freak and meet him off site? I hope not. And when did the council committees become 'his committees'? Dumb shit can't figure out how city hall works! Seems it works just fine with out him. Council members are acting in tandem as 'de facto mayor'. Works for me, but I regret my vote for funk-ee and I hate like hell that he is still being paid by us to dodge the reporters.

      ReplyDelete
    29. This is rediculous. We didn't elect her. We elected him to be the Mayor which means he should be accessible to the public. If he isn't he should be impeached
