Mayor Funky returns money!!! Still doesn't understand campaign finance law!!!

Mayor Funky's money problems continue and his recent campaign finance troubles make it clear that he still doesn't know what he's doing with the cash sent his way:
Mayor Mark Funkhouser’s campaign committee will refund an estimated $15,000 to at least a dozen donors during the past month.

The committee is responsible for the refunds because it accepted contributions exceeding the state limit after the mayor’s March 2007 election.
Typically, when something doesn't go Mayor Funky's way he pouts and blames everyone else for his incompetence or inability to comply . . .
Funkhouser said he’s frustrated by the confusing nature of the campaign-finance laws: “It is daunting, complicated, difficult. I obviously have to have the services of an attorney and a CPA. That seems to me antithetical to democracy.”
Sad, Mayor Funky can't take in all the cash he'd like and claims that's an affront to Democracy . . . That doesn't sound like something that an advocate for "regular folks" would say . . . Even worse, Mayor Funky is now personally begging local lawyers and political groups for cash (just like Mayor Kay once did) because he's so broke:
“I had a personal request from the mayor. … He explained that he had some refunds to make, and he needed to raise some money to do so,” said Mike Burke of the King Hershey law firm. “The reality is, he’s the mayor for the next three years. … I’m glad to make the contribution.”

“He did call,” said Warren Erdman, who represents Kansas City Southern’s political action committee. “We made a contribution and were happy to do so.”
That's cool too because even politicos who brag to everyone about their "principles" also need to pay their bills . . . But anyone who doesn't believe that he isn't bought and paid for (like nearly every other politician) is either willfully ignorant, a child or has become dizzy due to the (funky) smell of Gloria Sqitiro's bare feet.

  2. Geee, I'd really be embarrassed to be asking the people I called the "forces of evil" to pony up the $$, but it's obvious that doesn't bother the Funks.

  3. Things are getting pretty bajiggity out on the streets.

  4. Yeah, Barnes may have done the same thing, but she didn't masquerade and pull a "bait and switch" like Funkloser.

  5. It's a character flaw, he just can't admit that there are experts out there who know more than him. He truly believes that he and his wife can do anything and everything together. It's a sweet thought but it's just not true. He has been unable to rely on more knowledgeable experts throughout his tenure because he seems to think that no one is as smart as him.

  6. “This is like convention blackmail,” said an exasperated Visitors Association Chairman Bill Lucas at the board’s monthly meeting this week, where he disclosed the dust-up over the zoo to members.

How come Tony only complains when La Raza and the NAACP back out? Now we have the Zoo Association threatening to back out unless Funk brings a briefcase full of $400,000 to the Zoo and know seems to care.

  8. The campaign finances laws are pretty simple. You have amounts you can receive and dates to file. You have to file before that date and you can't receive more than that specific amount during that specific time. You have to keep your receipts, and checks, and when you file, your numbers have to match up with the receipts and checks.

    How hard is that?

  9. I guess it's too hard for The Mayor and his wife and the Treasurer that had to resign.

  10. Taking from the likes of Warren Erdman and Mike Burke puts Funk right back where he ranted Barnes and Cleaver were. He's no better than they were. Warren Erdman and Mike Burke are not regular guys. Yet another letdown from Mayor "I Represent the Regular Guy" Funkhouser. It's sad to see the Funk eat at the same table as the two Mayor's he so loudly critizes for being in the pocket of lawyers developers and the like.
