There can be only one (not really)

KRS-One said it best (in his prime) when he noted: "This is just one style out of many, like a piggy bank this is one penny."

And this has me thinking about other news bloggers in Kansas City.

I'd like to list a few of my favorites because unlike the mainstream press or most d-bags who write blogs . . . I think it's important to acknowledge that there is a diversity of opinion in Kansas City and there isn't one source who can claim to hold the truth (except Oprah) . . .

Anyhoo, here are some of the best folks who regularly write about the news in Kansas City.

If I missed your blog, it sucks . . . Or you can send me a link.

  • RDM's Random Remarks - Great stuff, lots of posts on a variety of different local and national subjects. I think the guy's Black so therefore he is the next person that all of the guilty white people in the blogosphere can attempt to make into a mascot and befriend. I just like his writing.

  • BlogKC.com - Always informative.

  • The Random Ramblings of a Midtown Miscreant - Lost of personal insights to go along with the local news.

  • Jay Bird's Kansas City - Another good local blog run by a great guy.

  • Another Kansas City Blog - A new local blog. Commentary on at least one or two local topics every day.

  • Gone Mild - Hey, ever wonder what Mayor Funkhouser's prostate smells like? This guy (a member of Mayor Funky's Kitchen Cabinet) probably knows and he's willing to write about it!!!

  • Bottomline Communications - Landsberg doesn't really like blogging or bloggers but don't hate him for it. He's a local media expert who has a website that dishes a lot of news about this small market stepping stone. His other interests include soup, afternoon naps (ditto) and hoping that conservative media personalties will take pity on a kindly old man (they won't).

  • Kansas City Dilettante - Another new blog, leans toward tech. A lot of great links and nice quick posts.

  • JoCo SOB - Because what this town really needs to know the opinions of yet another affluent white guy from the suburbs!!!

Anyhoo, those are the blogs I try to read everyday in lieu of going outdoors. I encourage everyone who is curious about local opinion (all three of you) to take a look at these bloggers if you haven't already . . . Unlike old school media outlets, the Internets operates on the principle of the long tail which basically means that there's enough bandwidth out there for everyone and folks on the Internet no longer have to fight for space on the dial, newstands or cable box.

All media consumers have now been segmented into niche markets which means that the purpose of a paper of record isn't as important as it once was . . . Folks no longer need a starting point for their local news but are free to choose from a number of spots that aggregate content or even better . . . Start their own.
