A recent Kansas City La Raza visit overlooked by most of the media

Janet Murguia was in town just last week but her visit wasn't publicized in a manner that reflects her status as a leader of a national Latino advocacy organization . . . Still, the generally upbeat response to her recent JoCo visit was recently noted by the National Catholic reporter.
The immigration debate is a major diversion away from issues on which Hispanics should concentrate their efforts, said the leader of the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest civil rights group for Latinos.

“When I took this job, I thought I would be talking more about taking advantage of our opportunities rather than defending our civil rights,” said Janet Murguia, executive director of La Raza. “We should be talking about housing and personal advancement, building community. Instead we are fighting hate speech and distortions.”
I attended one of the public talks she gave and was impressed with her as usual . . . There were a few tough questions from the crowd but given an open forum she was able to address them easily and to almost everyone's satisfaction . . . For the most part, it's only reactionaries like the Minutemen who don't bother to engage in an informative debate with their opposition and would rather just play with guns, shout at the top of their lungs and ignore every viewpoint other than those espoused by the former convict leaders of the money making operation.

  3. I was there too Charles and I agree completely. She was great.

Anon's "Talk Show" would be Lou Dobbs or Fox News.hahahaha! How about you actually pack up enough guts to attend an event and ask the questions your self instead of listen to soundbites?

  4. Because like anybody that doesn't agree with her open broders stance, she calls them racist, ignores the facts, and shouts them down.

  5. Face the facts.
No one cares about La Raza as you do.
Its just another group created by our government from grants.

  6. La Raza (translates to "the race in English) is an ethnocentric, racist organization. They are the ones who won't have an honest debate. If anyone disagrees with them it must mean they are racist. I guarantee you that if these 20 million plus illegals were predominately white La Raza (the race) would be siding with the Minutemen in trying to secure our borders. They are the ones who care about color and race not the Minutemen.

  7. Hey Captain America. On google La Raza may say "The Race" because of its latin roots. But everyone knows (except you) that Google incorrectly translates a lot of words. Those that speak spanish know that La Raza is more closely translated and used for "The People".

I'm just a white country boy, American born and raised, but speak 5 languages and have lived all over the world. I can tell you that you are 100% wrong buddy.

  8. Dear Mike,
I am afraid you are incorrect. While La Raza and it's cohorts may want you to believe that it is definitely not true. Don't believe me? How about La Raza and MECHA's motto "Por La Raza Todo, fuera de La Raza nada". Translated "For the race everything, out of the race nothing". In other words if you are not a member of their race you aren't worth anything. It would be pretty stupid to say for the people everything, out of the people nothing wouldn't it. Give it up. You have no clue who you are trying to question on this subject. I assure you I know EXACTLY what I am talking about.
