In Kansas City there's always money for culture but not cops!!!

Once again there's some troubling news about life in this town that emanates from Mayor Funky and his supporters.

On the face of it, it's not a bad thing that Deb "Don't ask my age" Herman promises that the funding for a Kansas City museum is secure in a recent (love) letter to Mayor Funky.
There is no threat to KC Museum's existing funding in this recommendation and I will watch the situation carefully in the future. I appreciate your support and concern for the KC Museum.
But then again, considering that Kansas City has no money for THE NEW COPS THAT WE'VE BEEN PROMISED, I could care less about one of the many empty museums in this town.
Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin said Thursday he'd like to add 20 more officers this year, but he can't afford it.

Several years ago, when the city asked voters to approve a new tax for police facilities, the city promised to hire 20 new officers each year until 2010.

However, the city never met that goal.
In fact, it's kind of disconcerting that representatives from of Kansas City's "Great White North" are emphasizing museum funding in lieu of working to find funds for more police officers.

Meanwhile, other parts of this town are starting to feel the effect of local gangs that had previously stayed confined to their respective ghettos and barrios.

And all of this points to a fact that I noted around this same time last year.

MAYOR FUNKY IS WEAK WHEN IT COMES TO CRIME!!!

Let's just conduct a simple review to prove my point.

In nearly a year in office:

  • Mayor Funky said nothing about a local gang war last Summer.

  • Mayor Funky has not initiated one new effort to fight crime in Kansas City.

  • Mayor Funky doesn't seem too concerned that Kansas City isn't living up to its promises in providing more police officers and so far hasn't proposed finding money to put more cops on the street.

  • Worst of all Kansas City's Mayor still ranks crime as #7 on his list of priorities.

Light rail, the Downtown Renaissance or whatever pipe dream the cheerleaders of this City are putting forth . . . These notions simply don't stand a chance if Kansas City is plagued by increased carjackings, gang activity and all kinds of crime.

There's no denying that, so far, Kansas City's Mayor has simply failed when it comes to fighting crime.

While his wife, Gloria Squitiro can make a call and garner police protection for the Mayor from his minority constituents . . . The rest of Kansas City isn't so lucky. If only we could all live under the special protection of Kansas City's finest and the mythical creature known as "Bigfoot" who terrorizes Black women at City Hall.

    3. You want less crime? Fight it at the source. Rebuild the KCMO school district from the ground up.

More cops is not going to stop Denon from accidentally shooting Latasha when he was aiming for Jarome...

Give those kids some smarts, some scolarships, basically the means to turn the ghetto into quality neighborhoods.

Cops are band-aids being slapped on a cut that wont stop bleeding.

    5. Support something of lasting historical and educational value instead of supporting Tony and his deadbeat crowd and friends.

      Works for me.

    6. R you ARE a fucking idiot. Crime is a lot more important that art galleries.

You have a typical liberal attitude and I'll state fo rthe record that I don't agree with Tony on most things but when it comes to crime and the KCPD he makes some good points. I wish he would understand that enforcing the law also means enforcing it against illegals.

    8. Who keeps quiet about Kansas City crime?

      Mayor Funkhouser.

Tony's a joke blogger I don't think he's as big of a problem as a public official who doesn't do their job when it comes to crime.

    9. Crime in Kansas City is Tony's fault? As far as I know the only thing he is guilty of is helping to promote illegal immigration with this blog but it's a good thing the illegals can't read.

    14. No matter how much money given to the KCPD they don't put cops on the beat. They hire more PR people and desk jockeys. The department is so inept it is almost impossible to reform.

    15. Was just a matter of time till somebody started bad mouthing the department and showing how much they don't know.

It's very sad that the Mayor's supporters would rather attack our police force then tell him that he needs to keep the promises made to the residents of this city.

I don't think the Mayor's a bad guy and I agree with him for the most part but on this subject he is wrong. He needs to do better.

    17. I agree with the poster that stated we need to fix the school system and help these kids get off the streets. He is completely right when saying putting more cops on the streets is a temporary fix.....we must get to the root of the problem and it's the school system. Give the kids something to do instead of joining street gangs and relying on crime to make a living.

I also believe that crime would drop if Kansas City would adapt a more strict immigration policy and crack down on all the illegal immigrants here in KC.

When are you going to comment on the illegal alien that caused the bus crash. Just think...if the law enforcement had done there job those kids would still be alive!!!!

    18. I agree 100 percent. I'm glad we have some people making sense on this blog even if Tony doesn't.

    20. Fact: Kansas City has more cops per capita then most cities its size.

Fact: Most of the crimes committed in Kansas City are done by those who Tony defends. If more cops cracked down on these thugs Tony would be screaming racial profiling.

Fact: Who cares about black on black crimes or mexican on mexican crimes or any combination thereof?

Fact: I called the police (911)the other day when there was a suspicous vehicle driving around the neighorhood. Within 5 minutes!!!! there were TWO patrol cars in the neighborhood looking for this vehicle. Turns out it was two Mexicans "looking for their dog"? Oh, the driver was wearing a ski mask and the low riding pickup had various items tossed in the bed.

We wouldn't need more cops if you frickin blacks and hispanics would just keep your hands to yourselves and get a flippin job.
