KC's racism on display for X-mas!!!

Man chased down, shot in KC . . . That's not really a surprise but this week wasn't so bad as far as local crime was concerned, what's more disappointing is the bigoted, intolerant and ignorant reaction to a weekend shooting from Kansas City Star readers.

Check the comments, I'm excerpting the nastiest stuff:

  • That's ni&&ers for you.

  • Basically, I'm surprised there's any ni&&ers left. They're constantly shooting each other. They poke each other in the butt and get AIDS. They only survive because of their high illegitimate birth rate, and all the welfare funded by whites. Let's stop the welfare and watch them starve.

  • More black males acting like black males.

  • I say you round them all up, fence them off and give them guns. They will shoot the hell out of each other. Problim solved.....

  • There were a few reactions to the contrary but for the most part bigoted chatter dominates Kansas City Message boards and it's a clear example of the digital divide in action. As long as this form of media is dominated by affluent white males with a grudge and high speed internet access this perspective will remain rampant, even dominant on the Internets. From issues involving the Minutemen to City Manager Cauthen to local crime, I've noticed that the loudest most vitriolic voices on the local internet come from people speaking out in favor of supremacy . . . This is part of the reason I never feel guilty about letting my web persona act like a complete a-hole.

Anyhoo, what's clear to me is that Kansas City's systemic racism is now part of the local digital world and while it may dominate for the moment it's only a matter of time until plummeting tech prices and the unparalleled freedom of speech found online eventually level the playing field.

    1. The problem with those comments is that they are stupidly throwing out epithets when the facts really speak for themselves. Want to know how much violent crime exists in an area, or how well the schools perform? I think that we all know what statistic directly corresponds to this answer time and time again. It's not the neighborhoods that the Chinese-Americans are living in.

    3. Fuzzy makes a good point: the racist morons and the bigot language they spew makes for easy outrage & raging flame wars, but does nothing to further the debate of obvious facts:

There is something deathly wrong in the black community when that ugly stereotype is re-enforced on an almost daily basis through body counts on inner city streets that armed police are even afraid to patrol.

TKC swings a broad brush of outrage loaded with hyperbole such as 'digital divide; supremacy; systemic racism', but offers nothing for solutions, common ground, reconciliation, or even a simple acknowledgment that some people - regardless of color - make their own personal hell that often victimizes, with a chilling & costly ripple effect, many folks throughout an entire community.

The bloody problem is way past lets-blame-whitey. It's time to start looking in the heart & the home of the black community to heal this God awful destruction of an entire generation young black men.

    4. So what would you suggest....all the news papers run by leaders of the black community? Then all we would here about is how black men and women get fired for not doing there jobs and its all the whites fault!

    7. I think using stats and flowery language to fuel racist assumptions is equally infuriating and wrong. All of that misinformation ignores the high crime rates and drug use in areas like Independence which are majority white.

      Spin that one racist statisticians.

    13. There is no black leadership in this town. With the joke people that do represent, you have to pay to play. Ridiculous.

    14. Wasn't (hehe) Emmanuel Cleaver a leader ?

    15. Paintman,
      Learn to spell,
it's E-m-a-n-u-e-l Cleaver, Congressman from the 5th district, MO

Yes, and since being elected to Congress takes a (shit)load of votes, he is considered a leader.

    16. Wow. You, out of the several hundred thousand black people in the KC metro area, came up with ONE "leader."

Someone is going to get a blue ribbon for that brilliant thinking!
