Instead of writing some rant regarding
Bill Skaggs suing Kansas City, I figured it would be more productive simply to outline a few main points:
Funkhouser is behind the lawsuit. Arguing to the contrary is just insulting and it's something THAT NO ONE BELIEVES . . . On a personal note, I'm sad to see that - at such an advanced age, scumbag councilman Bill Skaggs is still taking marching orders from a guy who might be one of the most unpopular Kansas City Mayors in a generation.
Skaggs is alienating the Northland. I know these suburban folk are always somewhat out of sync with the rest of Kansas City but the move to back an unpopular Mayor will inevitably backfire on the entire community. Example: Cleaver used the place as a trash dump because the perception was that the Northland didn't have much in common with the rest of KC or the interests of anyone else at heart. Coincidentally, anyone who knows a bit about the Northland realizes that they're facing the same big city problems as the rest of KC proper . . . Meth, gangs and increased crime plague the neighborhood. This isn't the early 90's anymore and the Northland population boom is history. Like it or not, the demographics that Funkhouser and Skaggs are exploiting are quickly changing and Great White Northland isn't (completely) the enclave of support that Republicans and/or race-baiting Mayors can rely.
THE LAWSUIT IS A DESPERATE, DIVISIVE AND DUMB MOVE. NOW THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT FUNKHOUSER AND HIS SUPPORTERS ARE INCAPABLE OF COMPROMISE OR FORMING CONSENSUS!!!
Mayor Funkhouser doesn't keep his word. Folks wonder how the situation reached this pitch. Other Mayors have canned City Managers, without being outvoted, without half the City up in arms and without a lawsuit. The Star made a weak attempt to compare the current Cauthen controversy to a previous City Manager crisis faced by Charles Wheeler. They failed to mention that Wheeler didn't have nearly every minority leader in Kansas City lined up against him. In fact, it's worth repeating that Wheeler was instrumental in garnering more access to City Hall on behalf of KC's Minority community. But more importantly, the fact that this thing has to be decided in court is just an indication that Funkhouser can't get along with anybody but his wife. Like every other politico Mayor Funky talks out of both sides of his mouth but the difference is that he actually seems to believe what he's saying. So far Mayor Funky has betrayed the Latino Community, Light Rail voters and now his own City Council . . . His inability to keep his word and honor the deals that he makes is what has pushed this situation to a legal battle. A more skilled politico could have moved to oust Cauthen under the table but Funky has proven time again that he can't be trusted to keep his end of any bargain and that's a big part of the reason why the vast majority of the Council has united against him.
This lawsuit and the Cauthen controversy is the last stand for Mayor Funky's supporters. The Mayor's advisers (or lack thereof) have backed the guy into a corner. Mayor Funky had a second opportunity to let this one slide but the transparent move on the part of Skaggs in support of his political daddy is a clear signal that Funkhouser would rather battle with opponents than work toward a settlement. It's a brave and stubborn move that's sure to elicit a lot of talk radio support . . . Too bad most of the listeners live in Johnson County and outlying suburbs. Additionally, my favorite part in all of this is that the Mayor's talk of transparency has amounted to another betrayal . . . Mayor Funky has learned to keep his mouth shut and he won't talk about any controversy. It's a good strategy but it's not at all close to what he promised KC voters who have grown increasingly antsy at the public lectures he tries to pass off as forums. Still, the Mayor and his people have went "all in" on this issue and if they lose, if the Council stays united, if The Black Community continues their support of Cauthen then Mayor Funkhouser has ultimately made himself a lame duck and can't really push bigger parts of his agenda like light rail or a mandatory requirement that all visitors to the Mayor's office must give Gloria Squitiro a foot massage.
Tony,
ReplyDeleteYou preaching. I couldn't have said it better myself....that's why I didn't. Funkhouser is a joke. A sad day for KC. This is what happens when people don't vote. Folks like Funk and his four feet are allowed to sneak into office.
Maybe folks should look at this from another perspective. Nine council members in a desperate attempt to continue business as usual have chosen to continue the contract of an unpopular city manager. The nine council members put in office by various special interest groups want the city gravy train to continue. Funk was put in office for change.
ReplyDeleteFunkhouser has been advised to compromise and reach out to council members. How do you reach out to those intent on looting the city? Why would you? People like that you don't work with, you destroy, or go down in flames trying to.
"destroy the city council"
ReplyDeleteSounds like good government to me.
If you actually knew how dumb these people were you would want to squash them like an ant. I once interviewed city council candidates. Twelve voters chosen at random would easily have had a higher IQ and the integrity factor would have been much higher.
ReplyDeleteThe reason people like Ed Ford and Jim Glover end up on the council is that they are too dumb to be a successful anywhere else.
They are easily bought by developers and other special interests. Why are they deserving of any respect?
Funk has painted himself in to a corner. And if recent history is any indicator he will deal with this matter like he has dealt with other issues that run contrary to his and the misses wishes. He will stand his shakey ground with the tenacity of an Independance pit bull, tact, diplomacy and compromise be damned. Bad for the city but it is at least entertaining to watch it unfold.
ReplyDeleteI just can't believe the situation is this bad. But it makes sense. Funkhouser has never held political office before so he knows nothing about the process. His lack of skill in this situation is embarrassing for Kansas City. And Skaggs, the guy is at the end of his career and has nothing to lose.
ReplyDeleteFrankly I am tired of the entire gang of assholes. Fuckhouser is a pathetic politician and as such won't get a god damn thing done in this city. The city council is too busy puffing its chest out in a power play for a black guy with a history of bloated travel expenses.
ReplyDeleteAnd most importantly, all of these asshole worked together to take the publics vote for light rail away from them.
Shitcan all of these motherfuckers, I can see both sides, and they both suck, fuck em all.
Jesus, maybe you need to come down off that cross and do something to resolve this mess created by the Wiccan lovers.
ReplyDeleteFuckhouser is right. The guy has fucked up his whole group of support. I voted for him and even took his signs across my neighborhood. He didn't just betray minorities Tony he betrayed all of the people who believed that he would be different.
ReplyDeleteDave you forgot to cue a violin solo. I have my doubts that people as whiny as you ever really supported Funkhouser.
ReplyDeleteHe promised he was going to shake things up at City Hall and he's making good with his promise. Don't let the race pimps scare you.
you think Gloria ever called Frances Semler Mammy..Mammy Frances? In play ground terms, Funkhouser is what happens when a Male person, who as a child was usually picked after the last girl..in kick ball. He has so many chips on his shoulder you can't count them.
ReplyDeleteFinally of consensus from conejo. Funkhouser is acting like a hurt kid who wants to take his ball and go home. He doesn't realize that City government won't work that way.
ReplyDeleteLook at the type of people who voted against the Mayor and behaved worse than the County Legislature on human growth hormone.
ReplyDeleteBeth Gottstein is a prime example. I heard, she was in an at fault accident and visibly drunk on Rockhill Road and she uses her political pull to make it all go away.
This town STILL has The FUNK, and we are proud.
you've been all over the Internet spreading this rumor but you've got no proof. Tony is this you in disguise? Probably not Tony has been known to be right on occasion.
ReplyDeleteI heard the same thing and that the roolie officers let her drive off. A police bulletin went out regarding Beth's leaving the scene
ReplyDeleteDan, actually your question should be: how in the hell can someone make something like that up?(location, numbers of cars invloved etc.) or why would they?
ReplyDeleteIll trust the non-political cops that told me the story over some crazy-eyed poster making this incredible story up. Go to bed Dan. You la-la land blindness gets old
