There is no justice in this world if white, middle-class families can't get a fair deal on Sprint Center tickets
Watching the news along with my life experience in general has led me to develop a few truisms, here's one I'd like to share:
When middle-to-upper-class white people are unhappy about something: It's important.
Never mind the Eastside death toll.
Suburban conservatives bristle at the notion that Latino CITIZENS don't want to be racially profiled or threatened with guns by the Minutemen.
And payday lenders and other loansharks ripping off the working poor isn't even a concern on anyone's mind once they start earning more than a measly $50k.
But the CONTROVERSY OVER HANNAH MONTANA TICKETS HAS BROUGHT THE CITY TO A STANDSTILL.
It's front page news
And already Mayor Funky is working to resolve the only issue that isn't completely out of his depth.
Let's not forget that this is the same Mayor who - after a bloody summer and KC standing on the brink of garnering another 100 murder year - HAS PROVIDED NO ACTION ON THAT TOPIC . . . He's already emergency meeting about tickets for JoCo folks. Clearly, that's leadership we can all be proud of . . .
Anyhoo, what folks (especially reporters for some strange reason) don't like mentioning is that Ticketmaster’s chief lobbyist in Missouri is Andy Blunt, brother of Governor Matt Blunt. And Andy recently won a victory for his client in securing the right of ticket brokers to do business online which is EXACTLY WHAT LED TO THE QUICK SELLOUT of the Sprint Center. (BlogKC attacked this subject pretty well recently).
So you can blame the Blunt Family for the fact that your little snot monster is sniveling about some stupid show but you might also want to be honest with your kids and tell them that the same family of Missouri politicos is also responsible for so many children just like them having a hard time accessing medical care simply because they're poor and have real problems that the middle and upper class don't want to consider.
P.S. - General Blather had some great perspective on the non-political aspect of this sorry situation. Money line: "You people make it sound like someone snuck into your house in the middle of the night and stole everyone's left kidney."
Exactly how do you know it is a bunch of white suburban folks who tried to buy tickets for the concert? Or are you making some sort of racist generality against a group??

You all wanted this boondoggle that is the Spring Center to attract big name acts. Guess what? Big name acts sell out fast. What a freaking weird mindset. Such a sense of entitlement. Classic JOCO.
Shouldn't Funky be concentrating on that huge swingset commissioner issue that remains unresolved? This is simply inexcusable.

Maybe the reason white middle class has a voice is becuase they make up the majority of tax payers, they dont drive through nieghborhoods spraying random bullets and they dont try to turn every single matter into a race thang. When your young black and mexican men and boys stop killing each other the murder rate will slow. Black on black and mexican on mexican crime is a national problem and it aint the middle class whites of KC doin the killing idiot.
ReplyDeleteYou know I don't want to be silly here but this is actually a good issue for Funkhouser to tackle. It's an easy win if he can figure out how to battle ticketmaster - Perl Jam couldn't but maybe he has more power as mayor. The truth is that there are a lot of people who don't like the way Ticketmaster sells tickets and voicing the concerns of these people is a great way to get on their good side.

ReplyDeleteThe truth is (and this is coming from a JOCO resident) that the problem is not the Sprint Center, it's Ticketmaster. They have a monopoly on the system and they do whatever the hell they want.
It is unfortunate that getting tickets to events is a huge pain in the ass, but let's call a spade a spade. The only reason this is an issue NOW is that we finally have a venue that GOOD acts will want to come to. It's not just Hannah Montana. It's ALL the events. The system is broken. I hardly expect Lurch to fix what is a NATIONAL problem. But it is a MINOR national problem. It's not like we're fighting crime or super-villains. We leave that to Batman.
According to the national crime stats on the DOJ's own website, anon 0946, has stated it is not a national issue. You are so absurd in that comment you know NOT what you speak of. It is a national problem. So is white on white, who cares. What was stated is true. Check your facts before making blanket statements. That will go along way towards fixing the postings on here that lay blame and not any solutions.

Take a look at any major cities crime reports or blogs. Mexicans gang killings are happening at an alarming rate. Check the LA times homicide report for starters then work your way east.

The Sprint Arena is not here to house rock concerts.
ReplyDeleteIt was built as a sports arena. I kept telling them at KC Rag Forum it'll be turned into a dirt bike or monster truck shows. I was almost right.
Some caller said we voted on the Sprint Arena. You dumb donkey. The people of Kansas City voted NO for the 85,000 seat arena.
The city rammed this 20,000 seat arena down our throats knowingly not letting the people of Kansas City vote on it.

Yes, Hannah Montana is the current adorable of the pre-teen set, but to go bonkers over failure to get a ticket to her concert is making the parents look worse than the kids. Not only that, there are plenty of them buying the broker tickets at $200 a piece or more which is almost immoral and certainly doesn't say anything good about child rearing or teaching your children values.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, there are the lecherous brokers/scalpers who need to be slapped around too, but they're not new and they're gonna find a way to keep on doin what they're doin all across the country.
And, one more thing. I'm getting kinda sick of this Jo Co vendetta. There are plenty of us who live in communities where people aren't rich, in fact, have sizable poor populations and work damn hard to pay their rent and grocery bill.
What you're forgetting Tony is that when 18 Black Ministers get a cob in their ass and go marching all over town in yet another protest, it's also an issue.
ReplyDeletebrooks was just as quilty as the rest of the council who had there hands out for free ticketss. the council also gets free tickets for the chiefs and all other events in kc. they go to the private suites and party down and dont care about the rest of us. everything is also free the food and booze so thats why everyone wants on the council. so brooks is just as quilty as the rest of them
