My bad for not posting anything about the local Jena 6 protests.
By all accounts it was a well attended event and lasted for more than 3 hours.
Alonzo Washington wasn't especially impressed and he makes a good point:
By next week they will all forget about the struggle and continue to do nothing to fight against injustice in this local community. Whenever, you see stuff like this happen a large group of Black people are mad for a while. Then they go back to the same old same old.I pretty much agree even though I thought the protests were a good start and response to the unfair case. Still, the challenge is to fight injustice in THIS community. To challenge the notion that building more jails is the best solution to Eastside crime. To vehemently express outrage over the racial profiling stats in both Kansas and Missouri and maybe to challenge the STUPID notion that the "stop snitchin" antics of a few people make the entire Black community responsible for the lack of cooperation with (from?) authorities.
KC's Jenna 6 protest was encouraging but let's not forget that so many middle-class wakcos also use the Country Club Plaza Fountain to protest the war and then drive back to their pleasant suburban lives without really making a difference when it comes to the many injustices going on right here in Kansas City.
Why does everyone forget about the real VICTIMS?? Six blacks seriously beat a single white kid. Reminds me of the old school yard song...."six against one, nigger fun..."
ReplyDeleteRacist. Can you imagine if six whites beat up a black? We are talking HATE CRIME!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe if the white kid hadn't threatened them with a gun the day before, he wouldn't have got his ass kicked. He had it coming.
ReplyDeleteDays before then, a fight broke out at a private party in Jena. A 22-year-old white man, Justin Sloan, attacked a black high school student with a bottle. Sloan was charged with simple battery. His subsequent punishment was probation.
ReplyDeleteThere also was a fight at a convenience store in a predominantly black part of Jena. In the parking lot, a white high school student who spotted young black students went and got a shotgun out of his car. Three black students wrestled it away from him.
The white student later told police he felt threatened by the black students.
No charges were brought against the student with the gun. But the three black students were charged with aggravated second-degree battery, assault, disturbing the peace and theft of the weapon. Those cases have yet to go to trial.

So in Jena, a white kid can pull a gun on a black kid and beat him up. No charges, no hate crime. But black kids beat up a white kid then you have attempted murder.
Doesn't anyone besides Jason Whitlock care about the facts ?
ReplyDeleteBoth the whites and the blacks involved in this entirely childish mess should be up on charges.
ReplyDeleteThey ALL deserve a backhand from the law.
Was the La Raza out there?

Yeah, I do! Here are the facts: A group of young savage niggers beat up another human being. They got in trouble. Now a bunch of whiny niggers want to protest the punishment for being "too harsh".
All you have to do in cry racism today and liberal whites bow down and cower in fear of being called a racist.
MLK is spinning in his grave, because these people forgot what he and others really fought for.
Hows 'bout dem facts?
Reminds me of the Semler situation.....

It's funny how everyone bold enough to say the n-word and "openly" display their ignorance, post as "Anonymous".
It's really sad that racism still exists, whether Black, White, Latino, or any other race. Your post proves that "these people" are not the only ones who may have forgotten.
tony where is your mom at and all her diversity training she should be right in the middle of this mess fixing the problem like replacing the white chief of police . or as your mom would say is it a reality or perceived that there is a problem
