A recent headline from The Call sums things up pretty plainly as far as the perspective from "The Black Part of Town" as Mayor Funky likes to describe the Eastside. Check it:

Here's the latest from The Star today: "The Finance and Audit Committee supported a measure to give Cauthen notice that his current contract will expire April 30 and to start negotiating a new contract." Also this ominous warning regarding the future of Cauthen's career in KC was kind of scary and seems to be an accurate representation of the disconnect between Black and white politicos in this town: "There is a hidden agenda," Former state legislator Mary Bland said. "Do this properly, because the city is watching you."

so from what i've heard they are going to re-negotiate Cauthen's contract. does that mean he will be fired? because so far, i've not heard the word fired out of Funky's mouth. further, i think this has more to with the fact that Cauthen's contract included a bunch of bonuses for goals already completed and/or not on the current agenda. and for chissakes, funk was city auditor; of course he's going to cut down on all the bullshit spending. i think you are making it into a race issue just to have something to talk about. if that position was held by a white person, you wouldn't even devote a full paragraph to it.

frog pajamas you're a good girl, a nice lady but you're either purposefully ignoring the facts on this one or you need to grow up.
Any any high level job, when somebody starts talking about messing with your pay, that's when you need to start looking for a new gig or when you're about to be fired, downsized, forced to take an early retirement or "right sized". It's corporate speak but it all means the same thing.
You're fired.
So obviously by starting this ball rolling the Mayor is sending a clear signal. Cauthen isn't welcome any more and he'd be wise to find a new job. The only question is how big of a fuss will Black leaders make over forcing out one of their own.
It may be a blood bath or he may appease them. Whatever the decision it's not going to be pretty and it's not going to make everyone happy. I only wonder if Mayor Funkhouser is going to compromise or show his usual lack of tact and media savvy. So far he's not off to a good start.
I don't get why you toot your own horn so much about this when it was widely known even before the election that Funk would likely replace Cauthen. Hell, I know several people who changed their votes from Brooks to Funk because Funk would replace him.

ReplyDeleteThe world according to Tony: $250,000 is an outrage when it's Ed Wolfe's salary, but it's not to be mssed with when it's the salary of a black man who had NEVER BEFORE HELD A JOB AS CITY MANAGER ANYWHERE and is ONE OF THE HIGHEST PAID CITY MANAGERS in the COUNTRY.

ReplyDeleteThere is a thousand other causes that these so called Black used up want to be in the press political clubs or organzations- could and should fight for but that would be to much like right. What about the Black community not having a major grocery stores, schools,jobs,housing,and the end to racial profiling...nope these causes would have these want to be on tv groups actually having to work.

ReplyDeletethanks dad. i was merely pointing out the fact that i haven't personally heard the words fired from him. and like i said in the rest of my comment, if cauthen is being paid a bonus for something that is no longer on the agenda, then his contract should be negotiated. after all, those salaries are being paid for by our tax dollars and i would much rather see that money go toward places like the east and northeast side of kc; where i live. in my opinion, his skin color is irrelevant.
Wayne came from Denver. If Wayne wasn't black the eastside wouldn't give a "scooter's ass" about him.

Who appointed Ron Hunt as a spokesman for the Black Community? He is always showing up speaking about "children programs" didn't he just get a bunch a money from the city for a youth function that only 1 person came to this month and the rappers that he scheduled walked out cause he didn't have the money to pay them. I quess not if he is having all kinds of domestic problems. He is a disgrace. I guess that he must have something he wants from Wayne that is why he is supporting a man that he claims to see in the community. "Ron Hunt only speaks for himself and the media just loves him cause he is slap stick comedy.

you know wayne brought all his friends and gave them an 100 thou jobs a year but thats ok for him the folks in kc just open the door because former mayor kay said he was the best man for the job. he was the only one who would side with kay and be her henchman. where was tony and his mom when they forced the hispanic sec to the city manager in which she was probably one of the hightest paid hispanics in city hall. so much for tonys mom and diversity huh
