Actually the story of a Kansas City family mourning the death of their son is really sad and should allow you to vary your response from "He deserved it" for whatever reason you can justify in your own thought process. Note: TKC still thinks Tasers are better than bullets when "less lethal" force is required . . . Also, nobody mentions that they make people poop their pants - Which is actually kind of funny.

The problem with Tasers is the people they are mostly used on (People who have been taking too much crack/speed/pcp are the people most likely to die from a disturbance in their already rabbit-like heartbeat).
ReplyDeleteI think it also encourages lazy policework. Note that nothing in the story indicates the person had a weapon or attacked officers. Most likely he was having a psychotic incident and surprise, surprise didn't respond to their direct orders.
They would have been in jail if they shot him with a gun in that situation. They sholdn't be able to use tasers when a simple tackle from behind would do the trick.
Yeah, it would have required a few more officers to get off their asses. But it would also have resulted in one less dead person and one less potential lawsuit against the city.
His family will probably get about 50-100k in a wrongful death lawsuit settlement. So everyone in KC just paid a 35 cents because of lazy cops.
Hold the fucking phone.
ReplyDeleteIs the Iola Police Department so incompetent that two (or more) of their officers couldn't restrain some scrawny little emo kid with their own bare hands? Are they so fucking scared of their own shadows that they have to use TASERS whenever a teenager is acting strange?
Jesus Christ. I hope they have these hayseed Barney Fifes' badges.
i tell ya, im a police officer and im really disturbed by the comments im seeing.......ok, taser + speed = death. Alright, i agree, maybe they are bad in that situation but lets remember....person - speed = life. Lets not forget the real problem here.......drugs. I can tell that the two people that posted on here have never tried to restrain a person on speed of any kind. I have a family and if that means using a taser to stay safe for them, im gonna. We are in the business of no second chances. Second chances leave our wives widows. Now, i also want to say if it is found that the officers used excessive force, then they should go to jail for killin the guy, i just hope that is not the case. I actually got to read some of the particualars of the case and the guy was selling dope and fled from officers......all of those things put together is what unfortunatly killed this man.
