Urban farming grows in Kansas City

Blood makes the grass grow, I wonder what it does for vegetables. The trend of urban farming is interesting not only because it's the only form of agriculture in this nation that uses filthy hippies instead of filthy Mexicans for labor but also because when the apocalypse comes I want to know where I can grab some carrots.

Sadly, like all hippie ventures (and family farms) urban farming in Kansas City is largely unprofitable and is now in urgent need of help from a few veggie loving patrons.

The Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture (KCCUA) is soon to be out on its ass like some old white woman in a John Mellencamp song.

They urgently need land and some way to pay for it seeing as good intentions, hippie songs and long forgotten (dumbass) notions about the importance of agriculture in any society won't buy you a 5 dollar cup of coffee at Starbucks. Here's the swan song from the head hippie in charge:
Katherine Kelly, co-director of KCCUA, says that the two-acre farm currently leased at 42nd and Gibbs Rd. near Interstate 635 in Kansas City, Kan., is being sold and since the organization has a need for more acreage to expand its educational programs, the search is on for a new location.

A new farm must be found within a few months. "We're putting out the word and asking people to help us find a minimum of two acres of arable land plus ideally some existing buildings for our office and educational programs," says Kelly.
I wish them good luck in their search for land. They're white so they have a shot. Sadly, they aren't growing lofts or condos so TIF money won't subsidize the venture and there aren't many Lebanese people around so they can't indiscriminately kill women and babies in order to take over some land for a short amount of time.
