Local blog Happy in Bag recently ran into Kansas City broadcasting icon Bill Grigsby at the Parkville's Jazz/Blues & Fine Arts River Jam. There's a great photo of the guy maxing out with what seems to be a reasonably hot Asian lady . . . So he's now even more cool in my estimation.
Normally, I don't like old white men. You see, any white guy over the age of about 60 is really nothing more than the beneficiary of some pretty serious white privilege despite his class or educational level. For that reason I'm not very nice to older white guy senior citizens, drivers, mall walkers or the occasional old man who might ask me for directions . . . "You the man! Why don't you figure it out for yourself and stop oppressing me?!" Is what I (wish I could) say to them. Think about it, a guy that age probably still remembers segregation (my parents do), he enjoyed the segregated and much better KC School District, he could openly show admiration of Harry S. Truman and the architects of Vietnam and play off killing hundreds of thousands of Asians like it was merely a happy accident AND he would have enjoyed a stable home life given the fact that mom would never mouth off to dad because wife beating was not only legal but also encouraged. Good Times.
Anyway, there are only two exceptions to my horrible treatment of elderly white guys. Walt Bodine and his crazy arthritic fingers will always have my respect and Grigsby is another guy that seems much to nice to hold a grudge against. Yup, Grigs is one of the good ones even though I despise pretty much every other white guy of that generation because I know deep down they miss the era when they could comfortably rest their boot on my neck.
Free Mumia!
(WTF?)
Hey, if you like Walt Bodine, you need to see this tribute to him at KCUR's site. Don't miss the video clips.
