It's a flat tax. Everyone pays the same percentage of their income.
But, the wealthy still pay more. 1% of a high income is still more than 1% of a low income.
None of this "47% don't pay any taxes" bemoaning like is discussed about federal taxes.

2. It does not require a tax professional, or computer software, to figure out.

3. It has never required having to fill out and submit a multi-page tax return by April 15. No writing out a check at the last minute and lining up at the post office the night of April 15.

4. It has never increased in the over-half-century it's been in existance.

5. No IRS auditors coming after you.

6. 4.8 minutes into the work day and you're at "tax freedom", versus up to half the day working just to pay the state and feds.

The states and Uncle Sam could take some hints!!

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10849017.post-39619650014045983212013-09-08T21:23:32.003-05:002013-09-08T21:23:32.003-05:00Hope there's "Cartoon Corner" in Par...Hope there's "Cartoon Corner" in Parade Magazine... that magazine SUCKS without "Cartoon Corner"...k.c.star comix readernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10849017.post-17203522967514053012013-09-08T21:16:08.712-05:002013-09-08T21:16:08.712-05:00And when it comes to downtown lofts...There is a m...And when it comes to downtown lofts...There is a market for that. "Millenials"? Fine.

And, if you're the city, it makes sense that you want to capitalize on that potential market. If you're KC, you want to attract as many tax-paying citizens into the city limits as you can. Because, the more tax-paying citizens you have living inside city limits and paying the local taxes, that's more revenue to the city treasury which can go for things like libraries, schools, roads, streets, fire, police, public works....

And, if it takes giving a tax incentive to a developer in order to attract them to want to build the lofts that are in-demand, in KC - you give the incentives.

If you do - the units get built, the people move into them, and start paying city taxes.

If you don't - the units won't get built - and no influx of downtown-residents becoming tax-paying KCMO citizens, which means they take their money and go elsewhere.

It's the same concept as in business - sometimes an investment has to be made in order to do more business.

While not politically popular and yes, can be risky - if the city "makes that investment" - either through a tax abatement or even a subsidy (subsidy - which I shun at) - and it attracts the development and brings with it the people......

Those people will then, in turn, so their spending/shopping, where they live - which will then in turn, generate even more tax revenue from sales taxes.

People who live in the city will also license their vehicles in the city, and thus pay property taxes to the local school district, library district, fire and police district, community college district, and so on......

So, the short answer is - you want as many people as you can get living in the city (and this is true for any city, not just KC) - because they bring their money with them.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
