Every local Jazz musician of note in the 20s, 30s and early 40s had to leave Kansas city to "make it", because the Musical Community here was closed to them by the established people of mediocre talent already playing here. <br /><br />This was just a "gig stop" on the way between New Orleans - Chicago or New York - Los Angeles! Get off the train, play a gig, pick up a few bucks, get back on the train, and go someplace where Jazz was alive!<br /><br />If you truly want to honor Charley Parker's memory, start a movement to exhume his body and have it re-interred in Paris, the City he loved!
