TKC QUESTION: SHOULD KANSAS START EXECUTING CONVICTED COP KILLERS???

This week Kansas City, Kansas is preparing to lay two fallen law enforcement workers to rest following a brutal tragedy.

Check the links and today's most relevant reporting and vital public information . . .

WyDot Daily: Community prepares for funeral service for two deputies

Accordingly, given increased talk in the comments and reader requests about capital punishment in the Sunflower State, we ask our blog community . . .

SHOULD KANSAS CONSIDER RESTARTING DEATH PENALTY BEGINNING WITH CONVICTED COP KILLERS GIVEN THE SPATE OF RECENTLY DEADLY ATTACKS AGAINST LAW ENFORCEMENT?!?!

Consider . . .

Conservative author Jack Cashill informs us that, including this shooting, five law enforcement officers have been shot in Kansas City, Kansas, in the last three years alone, four of those fatally.

On the other side of the equation, this is not to suggest that police and law enforcement don't make mistakes which pose a threat to the public - Remember that Kansas recently passed a wrongful conviction compensation law because a KCK dude was locked up UNJUSTLY for more than two decades.

Finally, let's not forget the history of the death penalty is complicated in the Sunflower State, it's the subject of an iconic American book . . . And Kansas is one of only two death-penalty states, along with New Hampshire, where no executions have been carried out since the 1976 reinstatement of capital punishment in the United States.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. They have death penalty but I notice you wrote "enacting" it which means actually putting people to death.

The public lynch mob will say yes but the price is actually more to Kansas than housing them for the rest of their lives.

If there's going to be reform on this front, you're probably talking about streamlining the death penalty process so that brutal criminals will face lethal injection. That's a lot of work and Kansas politicians generally hate actually rolling up their sleeves and doing anything that takes more effort than a press release.

    1. Now, I know that TKC kind of leans libertarian so I'll play devils advocate here and say:

      Absolutely not!

There is too much that can go wrong, like the case you identified. Allowing the state to take life and do it more efficiently gives them too much power.

Think about this: Real conservatives want to limit the power of government.

    2. ^^^ I'll make it even simpler.

If Kansas can't handle a prisoner transport, trusting them with a "streamlined" death penalty is even more dangerous.

Better to limit access to guns across the board in order to make mistakes like this one less costly.

  2. Yes, Kansas needs to ramp up the death penalty for cop killers. Obviously there are getting more brazen.

  3. ^^^ There is no evidence that the death penalty has ever served as a determent to crime.

    1. Who cares? Killers are not worthy of life and the planet would be better off without those types in it. Do society a favor and execute them.

^^^ Dumb comment. You had a chance to write something intelligent @8:41 but you failed.

As for the death penalty: It's a mistake to ramp up executions in a criminal justice system that's already broken. The focus should be on preventing more deaths and securing gun rights to protect the citizenry. THAT will help keep more people alive, which is the point, after all.

  7. Stop the prison industrial complex. That's what creates more killers both black and white.

  8. Folks in prison should work. How can murders work and give money to victim's families for the rest of their life?

  9. In a clear cut case such as this the death penalty needs to be served on killers with in 30 days after being convicted and sentenced in a court of law. While many claim it serves as no deterrent for crime it should also be noted that the taxpayers should not be forced to house and feed a killer for life. How about this, let the family of those killed decide if a killer is executed or not. They suffered the loss and should get to decide the penalty. If someone shot your Dad or Mom would you like it if their killer is allowed to live getting free medical and housing while fed 3 times a day and getting visits from their family while you only get to visit with yours by going to a graveyard? I seriously doubt it.

  17. What Kansas should do is irrelevant, it only matters what they will do.

Yes they should have the death penalty but they won’t use it, for one simple reason. Nobody in Kansas has any balls and the state is full of pussies.
