We Need Trade Deals Not Trade Wars
President Trump’s sweeping tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union (EU) will not only hurt relations with our trusted allies, but hurt America’s farmers and manufacturers. I guess the President considers them collateral damage.
American Farmers need trade deals, not trade wars. US pork farmers could lose $100 million annually.
Missouri farms are already dealing with thin margins. They do their best to deal with Mother Nature but any other unforeseen issues that hurt their bottom line can be detrimental or potentially devastating to an operation.
We are already seeing the impact in Missouri with the Harley Davidson Motorcycle plant shipping jobs overseas. Other businesses are also forced into lay-offs.
If you haven’t already, read some of the latest reports. The Mid Continent Nail Corporation is being hit hard with layoffs and facing possible closure due to a 25 % tariff on steel imports. The Harley Davidson has moved operations overseas in response to the European Union’s retaliatory tariffs.
I spent much of this week speaking about the harmful effects of these tariffs and will continue to do so.
On Monday, July 2nd, in Higginsville, MO, the Canadian Consul General John Cruickshank and I will host a public meeting to speak about this issue.
Canada is Missouri’s number one customer and sells more to Missouri than it sells to India.
I’m calling on the rural community to join us for a discussion on this issue and to share your concerns.

Not always a fan of the Congressman but I will say that he's making a good point for farmers and rural Missouri residents who are feeling the brunt of the President's economic policies.

ReplyDeleteNewsflash - As much as Cleaver and the other do nothing Dems want to scare you - the economy is better in Missouri and nationally than it was under Obama. Unemployment,the stock market, the gdp and the stock market are all better than when Obama was Pres. Guess what? You didn't hear the Dems whining about the economy when Obama was in office.

ReplyDeleteThe trade wars started with China MANY YEARS AGO. WE let ship loads of there junk in the U.S.With little or no tariff But they want to put large tariffs on U.S.GOODS. LOOK AT ALL THE JUNK PEOPLE ARE BUYING AT WALMART. .That don't last ends up in landfills. Tax China IT will lower the national debt and BUILD A WALL.

ReplyDeleteCar wash Cleaver should know that the U.S. had trade deals and were constantly getting screwed over by them. They were one sided in favor of the other countries. NAFTA is a good example. Trade deals should be fair and beneficial to both sides not the "spread the wealth around" Obama type.
